You need to look over on the debt forum. It is by no means as simple as these companies make out. You can get the debt classed as uneneforcable, but it is not "wiped" as they state unless you are prepared to put the matter before a judge.
You can get the threats of your back and removal of defaults, plus once a debt is unenforcable you are in a very good position to negotiate a full and final settlement at a reduced rate. It very often is a long process, but I wouldn't use one of these companies who will probably ask for cash up front.
Go and read up about requesting the agreement.
    good luck

Had a call about this myself last night, and apparently one of the company's sales staff will be calling me again over the next few days "to see what they can offer me". I'll be making note of all their details and checking their registration details with the MoJ as well as seeing if any of their claims are listed as "false" in the BBC report linked above by fermi.

I don't think I have anything outstanding that they could reel me in on anyway, so I'll probably end up telling them I'm not interested.
Where there's a will, there's a way to get something cheaper from somewhere else!! :D

Also check if they have got a Consumer Credit Licence via the OFT website. If they haven't you can add this to the list of things to report.

Mmm. Interesting. So, as people are losing their jobs now and have been for many a year now. Those same people, by your 'rant' are 'avoiding debt' when they probably can't afford to pay? Not that they will not. It's always nice for someone to spout on about these things until you have experienced it. If you have, I apologize but I will not apologize for pointing out that not everyone is avoiding because they 'refuse to pay!'.

Or, possibly, you'd like to see those same people thrown out on the streets, in a Debtors Prison. Because, from what I see of most in the UK, you are punished harshly for simply being poor, and kicked in the teeth. I must be missing something somewhere. Obviously.

Now, if you were to lose your job tomorrow, I am afraid I would have not one ounce of sympathy for you simply because of your 'moral' rhetoric in your post above this. Just the same I would have none for anyone who condemns people when they hit hard times. Just about typical for the UK, then. Tut tut!

Edit - and before anyone 'preaches' to me about 'morals'. Morals are a set of values which changes from individual to individual ie is the 'perception' of one person to another. What may be 'moralistic' to you may not be to me. I never take the high ground, only common sense.
I have every sympathy for someone who loses his/hers job through no fault of their own. My husband has been made redundant 3 times and I took voluntary redudancy but I have very little sympathy for anyone who spends way more than they can afford to pay back and then opt for the easy way out. I have never claimed benefits and I've never been in serious debt despite the job loses. I've always made sure we payed our mortgage and any bills first and what was left over was a bonus. It's all down to priorities and respsonibilites and some people don't know the meaning of those words.
  • Hi all! Forgive me if this question has already been discussed but I cant find anything! There have been some radio adverts on recently (think they were local ones) from a company suggesting that credit card agreements taken out before 2007 may be invalid and that all balances could be written off ?!?!? Has anyone heard similar adverts ? I'd guess that this was some way of generating business for a company but if there is some truth in it has anyone had any experiences??? Thanks
  • Thanks !!!!!
  • No prizes for guessing when this topic will come up again.
