TFD - your reply, it was neither helpful or sympathetic so you might want to reconsider posting on here - a site for people with money problems looking for help. Also if you took the time to read what I had to ask then you would see the following:
I am NOT seeking compensation, neither am I asking for my debt to be written off - I take full responsibility for the money that was spent. The fact that the bank took advantage of my unfortune at the time and mis-sold, badgered and lied to me about the credit card is a separate matter.
The one question is: Why are these companies advertising and claiming that there is a law where you could gain compensation and have debt written off if you recieved a credit card before April 2007? I am just curious as to why I have never heard of this before.
If anyone has any helpful comments on the matter then it would be much appreciated, otherwise please do not post negative comments, at a time like this Im sure everyone agrees it's not helpful to the person or the forum.*~Dont Worry, Be Happy~*

Also, did they lie and badger you to spend the money on the card?0 -

you need to write the the card company yourself and ask for your CCA ,under Section 189 of the CCA 1974
You need to send a £1 cheque/postal order with your CCA request and send it by recorded delivery so you have proof you posted it and they received it
they have 12 working days plus 2 for posting and if they haven't provided a CCA by then they are in default so you can stop payments. You have to then allow them another 30 days to respond before you can report them to the relevant bodies. They can at any time produce a CCA which then means the debt becomes enforcable againEx forum ambassador

Thankyou Browntoa - very helpful and I believe the CCA have dealt with another situation in the past so thankyou for your advice, it is much appreciated.
TFD - I refuse to get involved in an online argument, thats not why any of us are on this forum. I can understand your anger at feeling people are trying to screw companies over, especially if it is affecting your interest rates.
Everyone's money is important in the current climate and I fully appreciate that. I feel the same way and I am not one of these people trying to screw any company over.
If you ask me, its fraudsters and compulsive buyers with 5 credit cards and then try to "get out" of it who cost the banks and people money - not honest people mis-sold and lied to whilst in a vulnerable state by a bank representative gaining easy comission.
I may not be entitled to sympathy, but I'm sure a friendly repsonse to an honest question is better than having a blatant dig at someone for no reason. I wish you all the best and can only hope for everyones sake that the current climate improves so that these problems wouldnt arise.
Thanks again to Browntoa for your advice and help.*~Dont Worry, Be Happy~*

I read an advert in the paper stating that if you were sold a Credit Card before April 2007 you may be entitled to some kind of debt wiped or compensation due to Credit Card laws that were in or not in place at that time.
I took my credit card out in Nov 06 and was mis-sold it on many levels (i.e badgering and lying) but was only made aware of this law when I read it in the paper. Does anyone know more about this?
I'm not sure what the issue you're referring to is. There was a case where credit card charges were considered excessive (much like the bank charges case in the news now) and you could reclaim those from the card company.
A claim that you've been mis-sold your credit card could be difficult to pursue because there no obligation on you to use the card - and you can normally end the agreement on demand (subject to you repaying the outstanding balance).
If the documentation that you completed to open the account, and the terms and conditions within it (e.g. Keyfacts / summary box), does not match the reality then you might have a case.
I'd need a bit more background information to suggest anything more, but I hope that helps.
It does sound as though the advert in the paper is a fishing exercise to try to get people to pay for insurance on a case that is unlikely to succeed - otherwise they could claim their fees from you once you'd won.0 -
Dont bother with fishing on there!! If you have different view then they gang up on you like a bunch of foaming at the mouth rabid dog! I can just imagine how hot under the collar they get and they really get worked up over small things. While spouting their blinkered bile they probably forget that wherever they work are just as useless as the horrible, nasty, meany weany banks, boo hoo.0
