CAG forum sucks big time. Talk about blinkered and unable to see any other view other than their own. And if you should even try to take them to task, well all the toys come out the pram. If you try to have a debate they accuse you of being a troll/fascist/nazi/wum/evil/nastypasty etc!

CAG is certainly a more militant brand of consumer advocacy site than MSE. Its users are likely to be more self-selecting - despite MSE slogan, I think that people really looking for a specific kind of "consumer revenge" would likely gravitate towards CAG.

MSE is a much higher profile site with a large, varied following and its forums are generally tolerant of a broad spectrum of views. I don't think you should be surprised if you get short thrift from a fairly narrow interest forum like CAG if you start espousing views that oppose those of its core membership.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.

Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

Not true, some people believe in paying for stuff they bought.
Quite right too. I have spent the credit the HSBC have given me (well about 40% of it), and as a result, have some nice things to show for it. They have always been fair with me and open regarding the charges I must pay, so I feel it is only fair that I pay for my goods and the service they have given me at the fee's I agreed.

But I do suspect there would be a LOT of people taking advantage of this "loophole" if it were true.

I claimed back my bank charges as they are unfair, I merely sent a letter to the HSBC and they immediately refunded them without question, they did'nt need to. But you can see, that when a loophole does exist, people jump on the bandwagon, and it does get press coverage.

There is some rather stupid people who are writing off their credit card debts citing fault's in the wording of their credit agreements as their excuse, but in most cases, it costs as much to go down this legal route, as it does to gain by writing the debts off, never mind the time and effort it takes, so it's quite simply not worth it.

If the company says you owe x amount on a credit card and you have never spent that money, then morally, you have every right to fight it, but if you have spent the money, then have the decency to pay it back, and if you don't like paying it back, then quite simply, don't use a credit card again.

The 'company' who contacted me is charging a fee of £977.50 which is put on your credit card

Surely if there is no agreement behind the credit card then how can they charge this £977.50 to a card that doesn't exist legally ?

Mr P. once you get to put your viewpoint forward on the CAG forum, please can you post us a link. I think it may be an interesting debate.

I may even have to register myself ;)

    Hi there.

I read an advert in the paper stating that if you were sold a Credit Card before April 2007 you may be entitled to some kind of debt wiped or compensation due to Credit Card laws that were in or not in place at that time.
I took my credit card out in Nov 06 and was mis-sold it on many levels (i.e badgering and lying) but was only made aware of this law when I read it in the paper. Does anyone know more about this?

After phoning the company advertised, I was told I would have to pay £495 upfront and if my claim was not successful it would be refunded. This is all very well, but I (as many people are) struggling and do not have £495.

I was wondering who are the best companies to contact (obviously I dont advocate advertising) but it would be very helpful to know who the no win, no fee companies are as I cannot afford to pay for it and I have had a dispute with the bank before which drove me mad  and dont know if I could go through it again.

    Many Thanks
    Em :j
