I suppose it's a breakdown if it's raining and you need to get somewhere - or in this cold weather where salt, spray and roadmuck are constantly coating the screen.

I "broke down" once on the M1 when the nut securing a wiper arm on my Saab came loose. It was bucketing down at the time and I could see sweet FA. I tried to fix it with my tool kit but needed an odd sized deep reach socket which I just didn't have. The AA came out fairly quickly and 2 minutes after that I was on my way.

I have this sometimes i can turn them on and they wont move and other times they are fine its the motor on the way out.

i would be inclined to say this is a relay fault rather than a motor problem.

My front windscreen wipers wouldn't work at all this morning - previously the water has frozen in the cold but this time they didn't budge at all (they weren't frozen to the screen!) My knowledgeable dad thinks the fuse may have gone, but I've not idea how to change a fuse, or where any spares that came with the car (I bought it new 3 years ago) would be.... can I call out my breakdown service for this or will they laugh at me??

    what car is it?

ooo thankyou, tbh we replaced the motor about 2 years ago and was thinking it a bit stupid for it to break already. How would we fix that?

Its a Fiat doblo van on a 53 plate

    Many thanks

As an AA man for 17 years i can assure you this is a breakdown. It may be as simple as a fuse, the nut that holds the wiper arm tight come loose is my thinking though. Give them a call, you wont be alone!!

    Mick.

I'm with quite a budget company so... hmmm. The contract defines a breakdown as something which '.... renders the vehicle immobilised'. Is that different to the AA?

do you have a haynes for the doblo? i doubt haynes make a manual for this infact. i may be wrong?
if you can get any kind of workshop manual for this it will show you where the wiper relay is,its usually located in a fuse box, usually the fuse box in the cabin of the vehicle, either behind glove box or under steering wheel. a relay should only cost a few quid and a few minutes to change.

  • Please note that it is not only illegal to drive this vehicle other than to a place of repair but also could be dangerous at this time of year owing to the dirt being thrown up onto your windscreen off the road.
