Barclays (Young persons) account closure no reason

Does anyone know if I can do anything seeing as Barclays have sent me a letter stating that they were closing my account and that I have 14 days to withdraw all my money, I phoned the bank and apparently I no longer meet their "criteria" which is ridiculous as my account still has money on it and I never have or had a negative balance.

Are you 19 and in full time education? Are you older than 19?

If so, then you might have grown out of that account.

Without going too in depth as I am not sure what I can disclose in relation to this particular query, I would go into your local branch and ask for a copy of the terms and conditions of the account.
Just to make you aware that this is an irreversible decision and no branch based staff will be able to give you any information as to why it has been closed, sorry!

Well if they are saying you are not eligible, and they are not willing to actually discuss why you are no longer eligible, then I'd take my business elsewhere. Although their service is rubbish Abbey offer a 16-18 account, Lloyds offer a under 19s account, other banks offer them as well. So if Barclays are not willing to reconsider, then take your business elsewhere.

Unfortunately not. The account will have been flagged to our UK Banking Risk department of which a decision has been made to close the account. These decisions do not get taken lightly and will have been investigated, but apart from that I cant give you any information and unfortunately the branch will not be able to give you any more information.
As has been mentioned earlier there are many other alternatives, so chin up!:o

Barclays are useless IMHO anyway. I had the same account with them and had nothing but problems with cards going missing, money being paid into my account for no apparent reason that they then took back a few weeks later as well as their poor customer service on the phone, who have no knowledge of how to use the banking system.

I switched to Lloyds TSB's under 19's account. Friendly ENGLISH staff on their telephone banking, no problems with my account and more services then Barclays, such as weekly txts, save the change etc... I'd never go back to Barclays.

Whilst I'm not going to argue you who the better bank is, since it's obviously ridiculously subjective, I will just say that I hope you logged a complaint - because yes, we do listen.
