Although this was a "grabbit" in January, just to confirm that this "offer" is still on - bought one yesterday for my new Lidl £29.99 DivX player!!
Got 2 of these cables now and picture quality through them is excellent compared with s-video / composite. HTHBe an amateur! Professionals built the Titanic, amateurs built the Ark!!

Of course - you are using a different system for transmitting the picture. This has nothing to do with whether the cables are gold plated or oxygen free or designed by Porsche or overpriced or vastly overpriced or "I'll make my money out of them instead of extended warranties" overpriced though.errolevans wrote:picture quality through them is excellent compared with s-video / composite. I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between this and a £5 SCART lead.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

So your saying that I wont see the difference in picture quality between these component cables and a £5 scart cable?
Your talking rubbish if that is indeed what your saying.
This is a great bargain for what your getting, yes they are overpriced originally but for £8, no brainer really.0 -
Yes, I'm saying that - assuming the £5 SCART cable is made from proper coaxial cable - and no, I'm not talking rubbish. Do a double-blind test and you will find out. If you don't know what a double-blind test is, look it up.Baz wrote:So your saying that I wont see the difference in picture quality between these component cables and a £5 scart cable?

Considering that the SCART connector was carefully designed to be as cheap as possible so that it could be incorporated into every television without noticeably affecting its price, I can only congratulate the cable manufacturers on their spectacular ability to con the uninitiated out of huge amounts of money. But then again if the psychological effects of purchasing shiny overpriced bits of wire actually convince the victims of these purchases that they make an improvement, then I guess they can be considered value for money.
Why are they overpriced originally? Are they not as good as cables costing £50 then? Where's the specification to compare them?yes they are overpriced originally but for £8, no brainer really.
Hopefully, that illustrates my point.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -

I think that we need to be careful before making sweeping statements such as this. I agree that I have found little appreciable difference between the quality of SCART and component connections. However, sometimes it makes a lot of sense to have a decent, but reasonably priced, component lead.
As an example, my home projector doesn't have a scart socket so I use this component cable to connect my DVD player to it and an digital optical cable to connect it to my speaker system.0 -
It's not a sweeping statement: it's a statement based on sound engineering sense.stephenA wrote:I think that we need to be careful before making sweeping statements such as this.
The difference between the two in engineering terms is greater than the difference between different SCART leads - and yet you still notice that the difference is small. And that's without doing a double-blind test of course.I agree that I have found little appreciable difference between the quality of SCART and component connections.
Anything using the correct impedance cable will be decent, unless you want to run hundreds of metres of the stuff or site it next to a high power radio transmitter. Component connections are nowadays also compromised by using non-constant impedance phono connectors, rather than proper 75 ohm BNCs.However, sometimes it makes a lot of sense to have a decent, but reasonably priced, component lead.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
You cant get a progressive signal out of a scart, which is why people use component, because it is fundamentaly better. You might of had a point until you started to say scart is the same as component. Now you sound foolish.
Another reason why people should buy these leads is that you cannot get a HD signal out of scart, skyHD for example is ideal for using these leads as is a system such as a showcentre etc. All can run in 1080i through component.0 -
Apologies - I missed the fact that you are talking about component cables (there are two similar threads going on - one about overpriced SCART leads and one about overpriced component leads). So long as the distinction is made between SCART and component, my point about overpriced leads still stands.Baz wrote:You might of had a point until you started to say scart is the same as component. I get all my cables from the £1 shop......
....I'm so ashamed...:o0 -

Which I agree with, but these cables are a fabulous bargain, so I really dont know why you saying otherwise? And plus isnt this thread about component cables?0
