Asda Value Chicken grrrrrr

Ooooo I'm cross with Asda!!

After painstakingly chopping lots of veggies to make a chicken casserole in my slow cooker this morning, I open up my Asda Value chicken portions, which are still in date - and find they are off!! I've kept them in the fridge since I bought them (on Monday) and I've checked my fridge is working ok, and it seems to be.

This isn't the first time it's happened either, but it didn't matter so much last time as I had something else to make instead, but now I've got a pot of veg cooking and no chicken!! So, I've got to make the 16 mile round trip with my smelly off chicken to get some more, (possibly smelly off chicken).

Asda, you know I love you so why o why do you mock me with this dodgy poultry. :(

The chicken is coming in from Malaysia and Indonesia, and presumably being sold as "fresh". With the Christmas & New Year period, it's going to be a few more days in transit than normal.

Really? Blimey - no wonder it didn't understand a word I was saying when I wan ranting at it for being 'off'

seriously though, if that's the case then I wonder why Asda aren't adjusting the useby dates/ taking it off the shelves accordingly.

Why do you keep buying the same type of chicken from the same vendor if you know it might not be fresh?

I've being buying Asda value chicken for a couple of years and only had this problem once before - The reason I buy it, is it's cheap, we're skint and we all like chicken! :D

Our Asda are doing 3 packs of chicken, beef or something else for a tenner
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

I had this problem with a couple of whole chickens bought from asda, when returning them I was told it was probably just the packaging and the chickens were probably fine!

Needless to say I somewhat disagreed and got my money back.

I've also noticed their chicken fillets/ mini fillets are alway really stringy, so not bothered with them again

probably the packaging!! I bet you had a good old laugh at them when they told you that - and no one would want to chance chicken that was 'probably' ok. tsk naught Asda.

hmm, I was thinking of trying the chicken fillets as an alternative - I don't think I will now. I might have to bite the bullet and go to the local farm shop and buy a small amount of decent chicken (assuming Asda give me a refund)
  • We normally but the packs of frozen chicken breasts and de-froest when we need it.

Had the same problem with Asda Spare Ribs, took them back and got a full refund with a £2 store card.

They also mentioned it was due to the way it was packaged and that it was not air-tight.
    I hate migraines.
