Asda Value Chicken grrrrrr

It can be the packaging that's at fault. These value cuts (and some other stuff if it isn't packed on site) are packed in an inert gas (ie not air or oxygen) so the bacteria can't breed. If the seal gets breached it will let the air in (and bacteria) and the decomposition process starts at this point. You will probably notice quite long sell by/shelf life dates on cheaper products, although they won't be as cheap as frozen. Frozen is cheap because it has less waste through going off before it's sold, value products are cheap for the same reason - the inert gasses give them a longer chelf life, and in theory less waste.
I always buy frozen unless I'm going to use it the next day. Please forgive me if my comments seem abrupt or my questions have obvious answers, I have a mental health condition which affects my ability to see things as others might.0 -
That would explain why the cs lady didn't seem to surprised that I was returning some chicken!
I thought it wouldn't be something that happened that often as I am sure that supermarkets take food hygiene really seriously!! So basically you only need the tiniest crack in the packaging and the food would begin to go off.
well I certainly won't be buying it again.. frozen aisle here i come0 -

If it's of any interest I believe Sainsburys have chicken fillets on special (half price I think) and theirs are usually nice and tender.
Per kg the special offer "full value" Sainsburys fillets are cheaper than Asda Smartprice ones. Howwever I can't say if they're British or not.:wave:0
