This seems to be happening more and more and it doesn't seem to matter where you bought them.

I bought some pork chops in Morrisons on Saturday, went to use them for Sunday lunch the next day and they were sky high. The "use by" date was today! I dread to think what they would have been like if I had kept them to use today lol.
I took them back first thing monday morning, the lady on the CS desk rang the meat manager and gave my description to him. I was a bit taken aback, but she then explained that they have a serial pork chop returner :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Honestly!

lol @ serial pork chop returner!!

Well I took my stinky chicken back to Asda and the cs lady took one sniff of the offending product and gave me a double refund!

Needless to say I didn't buy any more chicken... and my slow cooker veggie dinner was.. umm.. very vegatabley!

We buy chicken from the local farm shop. Bag of large chicken breasts, usually works out around about £5.50 - £6.50 for a bag of 5 chicken breasts, two of which will easily feed a family of 4.

Also, same when we buy from our butcher. And it's local and properly fresh rather than refridgerated for a couple of weeks fresh.

The "value" ranges market themselves as being cheapest, but a lot of it is smoke and mirrors.

This isn't to do with chicken...

However - In a similar situation, I bought some red / green peppers.

Prepared all my dinner, started chopping the peppers... and a maggot type worm fell out!

I stormed back to the store who gave me a refund and tried to keep me quiet with a cheap bottle of wine.

I still wasn't happy. Called asda the next day - complained like hell... they sent me vouchers for £30.

I called them again, explain - it ruined my lunch, my taxis fees and the inconvinience.... they sent me another £30.... £60 in total!

Never buy peppers from there again... but I did enjoy spending £60 on 'stuff' :D

I used to do that, until one night I opened the pack of supposedly fresh turkey and nearly fainted from the stench :o

    Yay, well done you!!

I wish I had the confidence to ask for a bit more. I did get my money back, plus the money again so £4.04 in total refund, but it was less than the petrol to get there probably. Also, I guess when you're trying to plan meals to save a bit of money and then find the meal you've planned is not going to go to plan... well it's just really inconvenient!

I might send an e-mail to Asda and tell them, but there again.. I realy can't be bothered ... I guess I'm tired from lack of protein :D

Really? Blimey - no wonder it didn't understand a word I was saying when I wan ranting at it for being 'off'

seriously though, if that's the case then I wonder why Asda aren't adjusting the useby dates/ taking it off the shelves accordingly.

i have noted this problem with their other chicken as well, going off before the use by date.
Now ,we just cook the chicken on the day we buy it or the next day at the latest.

Blimey, what will you do when something really bad happens?
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
