You dont need a scooby, any italian car will do, I do have a scooby, but over xmas I borrowed a friends new Fiat 500, it was a total hoot to drive :T as long as you revved the arris off it before changing gear. If the engine sound like its about to explode your doing just fine.0 -
I hope you lot are exaggerating!
:j Baby boy Number 2, arrived 12th April 2009!:j0 -
scooby = clue

Find a decent independant Alfa specialist - main stealers are useless in my experience, and won't be interested in anything more than 3 years old anyway.
Try to get a copy of the Fiat/Lancia/Alfa Romeo parts CDrom (ebay?). Useful for finding those parts which aren't listed aftermarket for the Alfa, but are the same part as used on a more common Fiat.
Enjoy the fact that it will put a smile on his face every time he drives it :beer:
Keep an eye on the oil level - even when new they did tend to use a bit, and feed it good quality oil if you can.
It's a few years since I've owned one (had a 155 with the same engine, never owned a 156), there were a few parts that were scarily expensive, but much more reasonable once you get away from the dealers, and it didn't need much TLC in the round.0 -
Stop worrying,
Alfa's are great cars, I had a 147 (same engine) with 110,000 on when i sold it (from 87,000) for 2 years, not one single problem (breakdown). (OK apart from the normal christmas lights on the dash.) I did buy it a few new parts.
Yes quite expensive to insure, brilliant to drive, rev it hard and enjoy the sound of that engine.;)
Check the oil WEEKLY it does use a lot, I bought about 5 litres every 2 months, perfectly normal, but 5l of fully synth is about £35 ! :eek:
oh just noticed, a sillyspeed, oh dear.....:o0 -
