Only caught the last 20 mins of this programme.
What really annoyed me is that the feller ranted at the council because they hadn't found anywhere for him to live.
I say put the kids up in comfortable accomodation, but you and the missus can live on the streets for a month or two.
This might make you realise how you messed up and that we are all paying for your mistake.0 -
My kitchen is c.1960. It too has next to nil worktop space and is actually falling to pieces (3doors have fallen off so far as the hinges are siezed). It is manky having had doors and cupboards been painted GOK how many years ago and the paint is now flaking so it is impossible to keep clean. I detest it BUT as we rent I bumble along saving the difference between a nice lovely rented house and the skanky one we have (£150pcm so worth having!).
I'll have my lovely kitchen when we buy our own home, which at rate of drop and rate of savings will be on a 35% or less mortgage.
Infuriating and frustrating to live in a not great place? Yes almost to the point where we caved and bought before seeing sense and waiting. Worth the frustration? Ask me in a year or two when I have my 4/5bed detached as a FTB which is realistic and achievable (and neccessary with 3 kids!)
Just watched on iplayer. It also made me so so certain that will never be me for the sake of a kitchen/bathroom/big tv0 -
I couldn't understand why their wives were being so farking nice to the useless lumps they were married too. Only the builder seemed willing to actually get off his ar*e and work.
If you were hiding in my spare room pretending to be a financial adviser while my kids`home was being repossessed I'd be in there with an axe.
This, of course, may well be why I am single.Retail is the only therapy that works0 -
Our place needed upgrading. Just save up for one job, get it done and repeat as required.
Save up
Whats that mean?
To do up a house you borrow 10 grand off the bank + the £1000 arrangement and valuation fee.
then you go to the most expensive restaurant you can find to disscuss what to spend it on. Decide a meal isnt long enough so book a holiday to Florida so as to have PLENTY of time to think, then upgrade the car to something nice maybe get a new hairdo and a necklace. New sofa would go nice with the revamped house so lets get that then, oh we only have a tenner left!
Thats what you do!Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. The one where you showed us Dithering Dad is a complete liar. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE Forum Team0 -

Before they were that generous it was the workhouse for the whole family. And debtor's prison.0 -
I watched it, and although I could see each case was their own stupid fault, I still felt bad for them all.
I mean, 40k house, 150k mortgage, "we only saw £17k of that money the rest went in fees etc" !!!!!!!!. And still I feel bad for them.

However it was both partners fault. If one of you ain't earning then the other one has to work full-time or get 2/3 part-time jobs. This, of course, may well be why I am single.
Not true. I know couples where both partners are complete workaholics.
Any spare time they are exercising, studying or doing voluntary work. I actually get surprised when they state they have managed to watch this and that on tv.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

The only reason I am harsh is that I am a moneylender, and the whole thing with the 'we don't answer calls in case its people asking for payment' annoyed me to the max.
It is me asking for my money back!!!!
You borrow it...you pay it back!!0 -

The wife looked like she was high maintenance too, always had a different hair do and nice clothes.
From total finance website, this is shocking: "Homeowners have a distinct advantage when applying for a loan. Owning your home puts you in a strong financial position even if you have a bad credit rating. With an asset to offer as collateral against a loan you present a very low chance of non-payment to the potential lender. By virtue of the reduced risk, it is often a simple and quick process to arrange a homeowner loan it can even be for a higher amount than the value of your home." Sub prime sub prime liar loans.0
