Ah well, had to be worth a try tho. Let's hope Tony's cunning plan works.
If not, then to answer an earlier question of yours....If I install Firefox , do I have to uninstall IE6 and any IE4 progs on my PC first? If so, how do I know that all traces of these have been removed?
No you don't have to remove IE (I don't think you can do that anyway as its so closely tied into Windows now), you just install FF as normal. I DON'T want to turn this into yet another IE vs FF thread, but it may be a simple solution for you.0 -
I might be well off the mark here, but have you checked you file settings.
Open up Windows Explorer, thats "Start-->Programs-->Windows Explorer"
Click on View from the menu & select "Folder Options" a dialog box will open, click on the 3rd tab "File Types"
There will be a list box, with lot's of different files listed, scroll through this list until you come to HTML Document, then click the Edit button
Post back on the thread when you've got there.

Click on OPEN from the list & select the EDIT button, this opens a new dialog box that should reveal that you are using DDE & the four boxes below should contain options.
The topic box at the bottom should contain "WWW_OpenURLNewWindow" without speech marks.0 -

Speckyhen, I am not sure if I had the same problem as you but one way around it was to hold down the control key while you clicked on the link. Hope this helps.Be ALERT - The world needs more LERTS0

Hi topdog
Tried it and no-go I'm afraid, but thanks anyway. It's good to know there's so much support from the MSE site - I really do appreciate it.
I just keep plodding along hoping for a little miracle

Hey, guess wot?? I've sorted it at long last.
Thanks for all your help and suggestions. i ended up trawling through all 33 pages of this thread ::) ::)

gave me some ideas and i ended up uninstalling Norton Security 2004 and Office 2000 and reinstalling them.
Had probs with Norton cos I had to repeat the process no end of times and run virus scan an Live Update til I'm blue in the face. Along the way it seems I had an out of date oleaut32.dll file ( no wonder I was aching :P) so I've updated that too.
At long last everything seems to be running smoothly...sorry, what was that? something about counting chickens??? :-/
Oh wot the heck - I'm a happy to be able to surf safely once more
