Are you running Win98 First Ed or Win98 SE?0
-
Tried the dll websites and again, no joy. Most sites I go to want me to pay for full program downloads and as I'm trying to be a good little money saver, I'd rather hang on to my dosh, ta.
I'm using windows 98SE and had look on the Microsoft page about uninstalling IE6 and installing IE5.5 but that's only available for Windows 2000 now - back to IE6 then.
I feel like I,m just going round in circles and dizzy with it ::) ::) ::)
Have tried uninstalling software I don't use/need anymore.
If I install Firefox , do I have to uninstall IE6 and any IE4 progs on my PC first? If so, how do I know that all traces of these have been removed?
sorry to be such a thicko guys, but you have been so patient with me so far!!!

I might be well off the mark here, but have you checked you file settings.
Open up Windows Explorer, thats "Start-->Programs-->Windows Explorer"
Click on View from the menu & select "Folder Options" a dialog box will open, click on the 3rd tab "File Types"
There will be a list box, with lot's of different files listed, scroll through this list until you come to HTML Document, then click the Edit button
Post back on the thread when you've got there.0 -
I tell you what I'm thinking, so others can jump in on my thoughts should I not be around for some reason.
If you have previously installed something which takes control of your browsing eg AOL or alternative browser then this would have changed the file type settings for HTML Documents causing "Click Failure" for IE60 -
Hi Tony H
Folowed your instructions re Folder Options.
Mouse poised and ready to pounce on the next instruction!
BTW, I haven't installed any other browser eg AOL or firefox.
Just to clarify what's happening:
I can open web sites directly eg from address bar, favorites etc
If I follow a hyperlink or 'click here' to get to an external site, the window opens but nothing loads into it.
The only way round that is to click on 'Stop' then 'Refresh' and the page loads OK.
Pop-up windows do the same but I have no way of loading the info, so I just have a blank window.
Look forward to hearing from you Tony - or any other Techno Wizard out there

I'll leave Tony to complete his own train of thought (it's late and my thinking is impaired by alcohol ::) ) but another possible cause is the registry having lost one or more keys for the required .dll files. The cure is:
1. Go to Start / Run
2. Then enter 'regsvr32 urlmon.dll' (without the ' ' marks)
3. Click OK
4. If that single change does not resolve the problem, repeat the process by running regsvr32 with the following dll files.
* Shdocvw.dll
* Msjava.dll
* Actxprxy.dll
* Oleaut32.dll
* Mshtml.dll
* Browseui.dll0 -
The site seemed to go down for a short period of time..... Possibly to fix the "Member List" ;D if lincslad's advice fails I will post a view images of what the file type settings should be in the hope this resolves your problems
