Ok, I have undone the screw at the side of the graphics card, does it just pull out now, have tried gently pulling it but don't want to apply too much pressure in case there is something else holding it in (although I can't see that there is).

Look at right hand side of the brown slot on the motherboard, where the graphic card plugs in to - there might be a clip to move to undo the card.

The only thing I can think that the 120 quoted is refering to is the number of cores the graphics chip has. i know that I can get a 120core ATI card from scan for about £35 but it is PCI-E not AGP so the guy is takeing the !!!! with his £150 for a new card and instalation.

I could get the card, drive from Bolton to Essex and back and it would still cost less.
  • For £150 you could get a pretty good graphics card and they really are easy to fit - once you've done it you'll be surprised how easy it is. To replace like for like will be way cheaper than that. If it's not coming out easily and you've removed the screw (if there is one) fixing the metal bracket to the case then chances are that there is a small clip holding it in place. On the main motherboard in the PC (the board the graphics card and everything else is plugged into) can you see anything that could be a model number ? It will probably be a model number and manufacturer written together.

I'd like to say that I don't think you are necessarily being ripped off by the guys pricing (well maybe a little) but he's obviously got to cover costs, travel and make a profit too if he's doing this for a living. If he's doing it as a homer then yeah - he needs to rethink how much he's charging.
