Beeping immediately could be a failed fan warning, which as you have a fan not working if it is connected it will tell you its broke. If the PC is a small case and one fan isn't then it will cause over heating.

There are other beep codes but long equal beeps usually is a failed fan/over heating.

Did the chap who looked at your PC not tell you what was wrong?

I'm wondering if he's reset the BIOS, without replacing the battery.

Thanks for your response. As you can guess, I don't know much about the insides of computers but can I just ask a question. The computer broke about 3 days ago. Apart from the man who came to look at it, it has not been switched on since that day. After I cleaned it out today, I switched it on to try it and the beeping started straight away. Would this happen, as surely the computer cannot be hot as soon as its switched on?

    TIA

I had the same problem and it turned out to be the PSU (power supply unit)
This would also explain why it does it from cold. If it DOES eventually boot then its warmed up until its been off a while and then when you come to reboot from cold it plays up again.

If the date/time is being lost, so is any other data that should be retained in the CMOS memory, so the motherboard battery should be replaced, especially as it's so easy and cheap to do so.

Go to a site like http://imageshack.us/ and follow the instructions, it will give you an URL for your photo.

You can definitely fix this for less than £120 if it's an AGP graphics card!

Hi, thanks for your replies. The 120 I mentioned was the speed of the card the man said he would replace. I'm presuming he meant 1024?? He told me that the card I currently had was an ATI 64?? He would replace with an ATI 120 (or 1024?), the card would cost £75 and then his labour would go on top of that. The figure he gave me was £150 altogether.
