Thanks there's a little grey icon in the system tray which says not connected, I'm using XP Pro.

It should be grey and red, anyway assuming it's the correct icon, that means that the infrared side of it is working just fine.

If you want to copy a file from your PC you should be able to double click this icon, browse to the file you want to send and press OK to transmit it via infrared to the phone. This is without using the Nokia software. I'd talk you through the specifics of the Nokia software but the version I have here is doubtless different to your version and Nokia have a habbit of moving stuff around to make it difficult for people like me to support it remotely .

Cheers, its just grey, not red and it says not connected. properties doesn't come up when I click it.

Ah. I think thats the nokia icon. When you line up the phone and the PC, you should get an additional icon down there.
If this isnt a laptop is this an infrared adaptor you've added to the computer?

Its a built in infrared device and device manager says its working properly, but no icon and nothing happening. Tried updating, but I've got the latest version.
