B&Q bathroom installation

To be honest both those quotes sound high even by company fit schemes. Work for Wickes and most bathrooms, fitted with tiling come in at £4.5-6.5k depending on size. Even with underfloor heating unless you are doing serious structural work I cannot see why you could possibly be charged 9k. For two bathrooms maybe, but not for one, for shed product, even the upper end of it, which to be fair, is generally decent made branded product disguised as the sheds own.
Because you want to put it on finance your options are limited, so try Wickes, Bathstore or maybe even Homebase (though their fit charges really are exorbitant).
You do pay over the odds for company fitting services, but the advantage is you have comeback and a company backed warranty.
It is no guarantee of a perfect job first time round, but if there are problems, they will get sorted. (none of them want to be on Watchdog again!).
Cheers for that. at least I know im heading in the right direction. Ive arranged to go and see Wickes.
Lets see how they fair in price0 -

If you can do without finance, but want a one stop shop for the job, try Beautiful Bathrooms in Hayes (shop is an absolute tip but dont let that put you off, they know what they are talking about and are cheaper than just about anyone I know in that area).
What are Wickes charges for kitchen fitting like? I have already tried a rough quote from Homebase which was higher than I had expected. Thought it would be about 9-10K but it was about 11-13K0 -

Ouch.
I had a couple of independent builders come in to give me a quote (from Tradebuilder or something like that).
Both quotes came in at around £1800 for the labour only. and when we look at the stuff for the bathroom we are getting, max cost is around £1700.
When I looked at the breakdown from B&Q again, the Installation only was 7k!!!!! whereas the stuff was 2k!!!! How does that work? lol
So we havent been to Wickes as yet. Might end up going with local independent builder.0 -
Something I have learnt is that there is bathroom fitting, and there is bathroom fitting. Not all quotes will be the same. The quick job consists of reusing as much existing pipework as possible, and doing as little work as possible. The better job consists of chasing pipes into walls, when appropriate, to give a better finish, moving a soil pipe, if required, so that the toilet is close to the wall, removing coving before plastering walls, laying a self levelling compound before tiling the floor, and so on. So if a job seems expensive, or cheap, ask exactly what will be done. Of course the job might be expensive simly because the greedy company takes a huge cut, and pays the fitter diddly squat.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

A rare post compared to what else I have seen written but felt I should put the other side of the argument. I was very worried after reading all the reviews about b and q and I'm sure it does depend on the fitter but I have been really pleased with my bathroom b and q have just completed. There were a few initial hiccups between what the design consultant said could be done and what the surveyor and fitter showed could actually be done but the fitter has been fantastic, turned up on time, worked very neatly and kept me informed of what was happening throughout. It took a bit longer than I expected/quoted (12 days instead of 6) but the finished result is great. Customer service kept in touch throughout the project and I would recommend B & Q for a stress free bathroom fit.
hope this helps if you have a bathroom booked and are worrying about other reviews!!0 -
if i can just put my 5 penneth in, alot of people on here keep saying "i'm gonna get a local builder in" WHY ????, you either need a plumber (confident in fitting/tiling a bathroom) or a bathroom fitter, a builder is just that a builder not a bathroom fitter, most builders will sub out the plumbing or bathroom in any job they do.
i used to be on mybuilder & myhammer until they started charging a monthly fee as well as 5% on the value of the work, got some good jobs off of there although it seemed alot of people that had posted jobs were just after an idea of cost & didn't want the work done anyway, have no experience of checkatrade so can't comment.
As a guide i would say labour between £1k & £2.5k should cover most installs inc tiling.
Recommendation is the way to go, most businesses reley on this as their core work load.
hope this has helped.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -
Worst thing i ever EVER did was getting B&Q to come to my home. I bought a small suite and it was to be fited like for like (no alterations to pipework etc). They said fitting would take 3 days but took 13 months in total. I was 10 days without water and the sparky asked me to wire the shower as he "wasnt sure where the wires went". He has now been sacked.
The 13 months by the way was made up of 37 visits to the store to complain and countless emails and recorded delivery letters to not only B&Q head office but to the Furniture Ombusman (who are USELESS in case you think they will fight your case).
Isolated case??? Nope, my neighbour got a kitchen fitted recently and is currently going through small claims court.
Horrendous company. Never EVER deal with them. Pay the extra and have a good job done.
If you any more info on what went worng etc let me know. I have a detailed report.0 -
Complaining about an installation at B & Q is like elephants mating: it has done be done at high level, involves an awful lot of noise and takes 2 years to get results!Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

You're either a fitter for b & q or one of their overpaid salesmenEat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0
