B&Q bathroom installation

As above....I know the age of this thread is quite abit. however I hope to be able to contribute and get a response as well if possible.
I live in Uxbridge and have a ground floor flat. The bathroom size is not that big and i have 2 quotes. 1 from B & Q and one from Tesco.
Tesco quoted: £8500 for everything which would include a LIFETIME warranty on their installation should I have any problems and everything else will be warranty based on the manufacturer. we get a further 10% discount (as missus works for Tesco) and get a free Towel heater and Free underfloor heating....
I should add that i'm looking for payment on Finance if possible and the above is NOT interest free.
B&Q....we got the quote yesterday from them who guarantee to beat any price out there.......ready? £9500!!!!! And 4 Years Interest Free with a 10% deposit required....
As mentioned, im looking for a finance option but paying 9 Grand for a bathroom thats fit for one person at a time.....is definitely not worth it. For the life of me, I cant remember the measurements!
Anyone know any other companies that can possibly help me in my position?0 -

Has anyone you know used a local plumber or tiler?
Personal recommendations are the best way to go, so I would speak to friends and family.
You shouldn't even have to find every trade you need.
As you are going to need a few trades to complete this, you will find that most decent plumbers, electricians, tilers etc have other tradesman whom they will personally recommend as they are used to working with them and they trust them.
Good luck.Nothing is foolproof, as fools are so ingenious!0 -
Online reviews convinced me to avoid B&Q. I would be very careful who you employ. Many towns have a local independent bathroom shop, who can provide design, supply and installation and our local one is very good. As others say I would only go by personal recommendation. I would avoid adverts in papers, fancy web sites, and sites such as MyBuilder which are just advertising. I paid a high price for using someone not recommended by friends/colleagues.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0

Are you saying mybuilder might not be worth it?0 -

I have not used MyBuilder, but I have used two people from CheckATrade. The first was so so, overall decent work but hard to deal with and rough edges, such as a damaged UPVC window frame (repaired) and scratched radiators. I would not use them again, as it is too much of a headache, and he makes too many broken promises. The second were cowboys, and I had to throw them out and have the bathroom completely refitted, and I am now pursuing them in the courts for £3,000. At the time of writing CheckATrade are delaying publishing my review, and I am not convinced it will appear. CheckATrade might get this sorted, but thus far my impression is that they are strongly biased in favour of the trade who has been denying any responsibility. for almost 3 months. These sites are paid for by trades, not you and me.
Search online and build up a picture from other people, as well as me.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Your B&Q installer is likely to be a self employed local tradesman anyway.
Oops just noticed thread is 2 years old probably had the bathroom fitted by now lol0 -

the thread may be 2 years old, but ive only just replied to it yesterdayso no worries really.
Got a survey next week from B&Q....lets see if the cost will go down or if it will go up.
Got a design meeting with Wickes now as well. and have one of the local builders coming to possibly give a quote.0 -
I am an independant fitter of both bathrooms and kitchens,
B and Q do charge a premium for installation for some reason ! I love it when a customer says to me We have a quote for b and q as I generally can fit for a lot less!!!
We do tile removal and making good wiring plastering tiling and well everything really for around 2750 + Vat if it is a supplied suite !! most quotes I have come across form B and Q are 3500 plus ! and that does'nt include the plastering or electrics or even a 2 year guarentee as I do ! its a straight forward fit only and like for like as a rule, We often move soil pipes and pipe work for showers etc
As for the comment about not removing tiles as the plasterboard would be damaged what a load of rubbish,We @ mr plumb simply cut along the tile line and remove the board simply replacing it with new ! not only does this save hours of repair work it also makes for perfect tiling preperation s everything ! if the room is tiled to the ceiling we change all plasterboard ! it takes a few hours and is well worth doing and that is in the price of a standard installation from us ..
They do make me a little angry as your local guy if he is experienced is often far better as his reputation is on the line should he make a mistake or you are not happy ! again we guarantee for 2 years thats how confident we are in our service lots of local trades also do a personal guarantee on workmanship! as we work on recommendation too !
Rant over hope you are all well

You're far better off starting a new thread.
Alos, if you're asking for advice, you could post a thread asking for bathroom installations in your area... someone may know a plumber etc0 -
To be honest both those quotes sound high even by company fit schemes. Work for Wickes and most bathrooms, fitted with tiling come in at £4.5-6.5k depending on size. Even with underfloor heating unless you are doing serious structural work I cannot see why you could possibly be charged 9k even though you live at the edge of London. For two bathrooms maybe, but not for one, for shed product, even the upper end of it, which to be fair, is generally decent made branded product disguised as the sheds own.
Because you want to put it on finance your options are limited, so try Wickes, Bathstore or maybe even Homebase (though their fit charges really are exorbitant).
You do pay over the odds for company fitting services, but the advantage is you have comeback and a company backed warranty.
It is no guarantee of a perfect job first time round, but if there are problems, they will get sorted. (none of them want to be on Watchdog again!).
If you can do without finance, but want a one stop shop for the job, try Beautiful Bathrooms in Hayes (shop is an absolute tip but dont let that put you off, they know what they are talking about and are cheaper than just about anyone I know in that area).0
