B&Q bathroom installation

B&q are having another sale, however this time they are offering half price installation. Of course they can't give any ideas on how much said installation would be without a bathroom plan and subsequent survey (which we have to pay £50 for if we don't go ahead). Our bathroom is small- 1.9m by 1.6m. The furniture and taps we want cost about £1200.
So..
1. Has anybody used their installation service and got any reviews?
2. Can anybody give us a vague idea of what they think they will charge us. If it'll be more like £3000 for installation we won't go ahead. Would we be better off finding local tradesmen?

On their so called "half price installation" offer, we've been quoted £3400 for installing a bathroom. That includes removing the old suite, replacing the new stuff in the same places and tiling the floor and walls.
From the quote breakdown, they are charging £230.35 for removal of old tiling. I only have a 1 tile high splashback round the bath and sink, so there are a total of 18 tiles to come off!
I've registered on www.mybuilder.co.uk and had quotes from local tradesmen for between £450-£1000. The lower quotes do seem a little suspect as they don't have liability insurance or pictures and references. However there are a few people quoting around £750-£1000 who have insurances, references and pictures, so I'm going to go with one of those.
B&Q did ring to see if I was going ahead and I explained they were too expensive. The man didn't seem shocked and said to be honest a lot of people say that and he's not surprised when people say they can get fitting cheaper elsewhere! Here I go again on my own....0 -

- Yes get a local guy. Get a recommendation if you can.
Nothing is easy........'til you find out how!0 -
Hmmm... sounds like its worth taking advantage of their design service but not installation.0

I've used them for installation and the quality of work was very poor, even when the b&q manager visited he couldn't care less.
Think of a job being outsourced 3 times and you get the picture, as for removing tiles well I paid for that and the guys who turned up refused to do it as they said it would be too much work for them to repair the plasterboard after they had taken them off ! They even cut through a water pipe and soaked my kitchen walls, the supervisor would only say that it was drying out nicely when he came to see it.
I would buy their bathroom again but would arrange a local recommended tradesman, I can't remember the exact price but we paid around £3000 for a full bathroom including tiling of all the walls and floors.0 -
i have just had a quote from b&q today!! to remove the tiling which just goes around the bath.....wait for it.....£333 and to tile the whole room which isnt big - £940
and to remove and dispose of the bath/sink/toilet + fit the new- £808
your telling me this is HALF PRICE INSTALLATION???? WHAT A COMPLETE RIP OFF!!!!
the bathroom suite cost £750 and the installation £32000 -
I think insulting peoples intelligence with these so called "half price offers" will come back to haunt them..I can think of a recently deceased self assembly furniture seller (Made For Idiots) who always had a half price sale on that didn't help their credibility either. The Early bird may catch the worm ...but its the second mouse that gets all the cheese!0

Don't go with B&Q. They are a rip off for installations of all types and notorious for poor quality. The reason for this is that they sub contract their installations to 'authorised fitters' but the problem is that some of these fitters then sub contract out the work again and then you end up with someone fitting your bathroom who really could not care less about the finish!
Buy your bits from B and Q and then find your own plumber. Personal recommendation is usually the best way to go0 -
