We have two locally and they have signs up saying they are in administration, they have everything reduced too but are not on the list so i assume they are going too.
They were both quite bare too,not much stock at all and very badly organised but i think i will still have another look tommorow when i have more time for a proper look-i will miss adams as i have been buying my childrens clothes there for years.0 -
My local, Harlow is on the list, but it is already closed, I walked past today and it had its shutters down everything inside the shop is gone :-(0

I think it's a huge shame as I had my clothes from there when I was a kid, then bought them for my own kids. (Especially when I worked there as I couldn't resist!!!)
Where I worked and the surrounding areas, staff turnover was very low and people ended up staying for years on end, as it was quite a nice place to work, so I expect a lot of the staff will be ones who've been there for donkeys years.
Unfortunately it's now coming into the quietest 3 months of the year for them, so that won't help with potential buyers etc. It went so dead until it gets warmer and then the first day of sun and everyone goes mad for spring clothes and vice versa, and woe betide if the weather was suddenly hotter at the end of autumn or extra cold/rainy in summer, people used to get cross we didn't have the right kind of stock in! Unfortunately it's hard to predict the weather when you are buying the majority of stock a year in advance!! and as we all know the English weather seasons have all gone to pot now, so I think that has put off a lot of people buying lots of clothes for each season and has also made it hard to trade with the right stuff in at the right time. I can only imagine when we had the floods of 2007 no one was out buying the summer stuff then etc, and there is no way anyone would have predicted that weather happening!!0 -
Am I reading it wrong or are they saying that thoses stores have closed already with immediate effect. Mine is on the list and don't want to go to town if its already closed.
The article says that the staff in effected stores have been made redundant with immediate effect, sounds like they are already closed. Not much fun just after christmas for them.
The 2 local to me are still open so unsure as I also read it like the stores were already closed yet both local ones to me are open still?Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
brentwood is on the list as well and closed today, i guess they will move all stock to the ones staying open0

Gloucester is on the list, not surprised though -went in about Nov time and much lower stock level than usual. Liked their clothes but only used to buy when reduced in sale as found a bit expensive.
Trouble is I guess as these big names go from our town centres people are less likely to make a trip in to town and that will knock on to the stores that are left. Gloucester is not brilliant for shopping as it is!0 -
I'm very surprised to see Camberley isn't on the list tbh! I walked past on Friday (never go in there for clothes for my 3 as i've found sizing odd in the past). and it looked like they had about 3 rails of stock left! Certainly looked like a shop about to close down imo.
That's what we thought when we were in there at the beginning of December, but there didn't really seem to be any bargains to get. Does look like it's going to close though.0 -
i am really pleased neither of my local ones are on the list
i love adams boys stuff (although i think the girls is horrible)
does anyone know if most stock is now reduced then in the remaining stores?
i know they already had a pretty good sale on anyway
thanks0 -
It is looking bad for all of us who work in retail. Adams is another sad story. I always bought the kids clothes there until they grew too big for them. They were nice quality and I always thought a resonable price too. Our local Adams is not on the list. I hope they keep open as there are already a lot of people out of work or on short time in this area.Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination:beer:
