    Average price below £80k ... dream on. Just a basic calculation of 3 1/2 times average earnings is £87500, plus deposit of 15% takes us above £100k , most prospective home buyers are a few runs of the employment ladder so I'd expect the average salary of house buyers to be closer to £30k so that's £105k plus deposit takes us to around £120k

    Suppose everyone except you loses their job in the recession. You have savings of £100k, and earn £100k a year.

    Would the average house price rise to £450k, or fall?

    You think national average wage is going to stay at £25,000? That figure is a result of the UK's imaginary growth over the past several years.

    It's a recession not World War 3. Average salaries aren't suddenly going to be £15k all of a sudden, there will be increased unemployment and 2009 will be tough but it is not the end of he world as we know it.
