O2 Pay and Go - How does it work?
Options
Hello,
I am trying to find the cheapest provider for GPRS and found O2's bolt on which allows 2MB for £3/month. The only problem is I am not on O2 at the moment. I looked online at the pay-and-go tariffs but I am confused. They all need me to top up £10 a month but how does this work, what happens if I don't topup the £10 per month?
I am a very light user and only spend about £20 a year on topups (yes really
) so obviously I want something just literally for the GPRS so I can check my emails and use MSN on the go.
Also does anyone know any better deals than the £3/2MB/month?

the £10 will give you 300 messages or 100 mins. if you don't top up you just don't get the texts or mins. You also get to keep the £10 to use.
Orange offer better value gprs bolt ons. Can't remember prices though0 -
i use to be on o2 pay as u go and if i didnt top up after 30 days my phone would get blocked0

Times have changed. As long as you make onecall/send text every 6 months your ok.
Their give you 5mb browsing and downloading( GPRS WAP) in first month.
Their also give you £2.50 credit when you register. So if you top up by £10 and choose the wap on bolt you would not have top up for 4 months. Then put another £10 in and your get another 3 months, and so on.Plus every time you top your get free calls, and texts for a month.
Grab yourself a free O2 sim here http://mates.o2.co.uk/0 -

It's not like that any more. If you don't top up by the required amount each month you simply lose your entitlement to free calls/texts but you can still carry on using your phone as long as it has credit on it.
I'd say O2 PAYG isn't the best tariff for the OP as they don't use it that much.
Sorry i can't be of more help with finding the right provider though!0 -
Thats brilliant thank you very much
Do I even get the £2.50 free with the free Sim above? Sounds too good to be true.0 -

Brilliant. Thanks.
Just checked Orange, and after a bit of searching on the site, their comparable service is:
Orange:
No Introduction offer (as far as I can tell)
SIM for 50p
£10 topup gives 1000 texts and 1MB free
Bolt On gives £4/4mb so £1/MB
O2:
£2.50 free topup and 5MB transfer free in the first month (worth £7.50)
Free SIM
£10 topup gives 100 talktime or 300 texts and 1MB free
Bolt On gives £3/2mb so £1.50/MB
I think I will stick with O2 because 4mb is a lot and I don't think I will use that much. O2 definatly has the best introduction offer with a free sim etc.0 -
