OK - so I have 500 (because I forgot tho put the gym on there which is £22.50) left over for food, petrol, nice things and leisure stuff, and of course overpayments. I will be earning a bit of extra cash here and there but I'm going to count that as a bonus rather than trying to budget it in.

My usual is to pay £200 onto my clubcard plus for food and petrol for the month (gotta get the double points!) and £200 into my HSBC account for leisure and nice things.

Which only leaves £100 for the overpayments. I can't cut down on anything else, so it looks like it will have to be a cut down on the leisure and nice things - yay

To be honest though, I don't actually know where that £200 goes. I certainly don't have that much to show for it at the end of the month. Methinks it's spending diary time again!

For my first trick - I have approximately £8 in my purse. I will endeavour to keep this £8 in my purse untill sunday, because I do not need to spend anything, I have a house full of food, paid for internet, sky tv and a gym membership to keep me busy, and so I do not need to spend that money.

    GO!

£200 for food and petrol - have you broken that budget down?

How much do you spend on food? Do you ever have money left from this budget?

Have you spent a lot of time on the OS board finding out about batch cooking etc? I have a full freezer at the moment (Seriously, not a tiny little bit of room left) which is confusing me now as I have spent so long padding out meals and I can't do that just now as I have no sodding space to put leftovers into the freezer :D

    Nice to see you back!

Hiya FF :) I know I haven't posted on this in ages I'm sooo bad! I though I couldn't possible let my own thread drop of the first page of my hotlist hehe.

Yep, it's about 100 on food and 80 on petrol, then I sometimes treat myself to clothes from tesco if I have any left over. I rarely buy food from anywhere but tesco as I'm addicted to the clubcard points! :p

I cook from scratch pretty much every night as I hate ready meals but I don't batch cook as I have one of those crappy freezers with only 1 shelf so there is no room to keep it all! (it's so jam packed at the minute it was like playing some kind of food tetris trying to get everything in!)

I kind of do it in reverse though, so I'll buy like a massive batch of mince and then divide it up into portions to freeze, then I'll make say spag bol and any leftovers get used for lunch the next day. It seems to work ok.

I think the problem is that I've been doing quite well and I've just got a bit complacent with my everyday spending, not to mention the couple of big things that have come up recently. I'm gonna go back to basics this month I think!

    xx

Me too. According to my spreadsheet I should have about £220 left at the moment and I have about £100. Don't get paid till the 23rd either.

Freezerwise - do you have space in your house/flat for a small chest freezer? If so, maybe keep an eye on Freecycle or Gumtree. Even if it has to stay in your living room, whack a throw over it and put an ornament on top, and then it's a ninja freezer :D

Haha loving the ninja freezer idea!!! Unfortunately there is no extra space in the flat for anything else, everywhere is jam packed! There is very little built in cupboard space and when I first moved in all the family were offering my stuff so the house is full of mismatched storage type furniture! It is my birthday in a couple of months though so I might see if someone is willing to put towards a slightly taller fridge freezer. Guess I could have a look in the paper or freecycle for that too though couldn't I...

I have !!!!!! all left this month, because of the car tax and tuition fees I'm up to my overdraft again on the A&L account, to be fair I do have about 170 in the HSBC but I know that some of that will be spent at the take that concert later this month!
    Where does it all go!

Have been naughty today and not been to the gym, I did do the hoovering instead and my hoover (another handmedown!) is sooo heavy its like a workout! Have been good foodwise though, had an apple for breakfast, 3 ryvitas with low fat cream cheese and a tomato for lunch, and am just about to have a chicken salad for tea. Might stick a garlic bread in aswell to free up some freezer space!
