Learning to drive, problems with instructor

Hope its ok to post here

Im soo damn annoyed.

I have been learning since august last year, ive had 50 hours so far. Still got no where which ok fair enough. But im on a course monday-friday now. When i first started i was unemployed and nothing to do in the day so i could do any day. Im on my course from 9-4 and 4 is where the traffic is or by time i get home 5-half 5 depending on buses it could be worse. So i asked my driving instructor if i can do weekends, he says no, fully booked. I asked if i could book 3 weeks + in advance, no. And now i cant do monday-friday. I understand i have got to learn the traffic, but i want my money's worth maybe i am asking for too much?

And other things. Few weeks ago i had a lesson at 6pm, so i got home for 5:45. Taxi cost me 6 pounds i think. And he text me at 5:55pm to tell me he could not make it. I had a lesson on thursday booked and i booked it the day before. He text me 20 minutes before my lesson was due to say he could not make it because he forgot it was new years even, no apology or nothing. So i had a lesson friday.

I do silly mistakes, and on friday i put my feet on the clutch and the gas at the same time. And he spoke to me like a peice of dirt and said i would break the car doing that. He speaks to me like crap. And i have to work around him. Sorry to rant but i pay his wages   . He needs me more then i need him, for the simple reason i could find another instructor easily.

Which this is where the problem is. I have about 15 lessons in block booked. And im going to call up today (sunday) and speak to them. Am i entitled to a refund .. or maybe go with another instructor with the same company? It gets me down. And tonight i have been crying about it ! And not just that. He will go get petrol in my lessons, my time as well ! I dont know if he can do this? but hes done it about 4 times now as soon as i got in the car, he goes ! And it takes like 10 minutes because he takes ages & because people paying as well. And it says not to call between after 8:30am and before 8:30pm. And on about 4 occasions he has answered calls and took bookings making me pull over, using my time again ! and another time he made me go to someones house so he could drop there phone off. Using my time again.

Basically i love driving i cant wait to pass. But i cannot cope with how he speaks to me and i cant do lessons in the week either.

I was wondering do i have any rights at all? And would it be possible for me to go with another instructor with the same company, or just get a refund?

Sorry about the long thread ! Thank you !

You really need to change instructor! That's not good at all behaviour from them. It sounds like you are with a large company of instructors rather than individuals so I would personally say to your instructor that it is not working and you are going elsewhere. Ring the main company if he gets stroppy!

    Good luck in passing :)

is it a big company that he works for? If so and you've block booked then speak to them and tell them you want a new instructor and why.

This guy sounds like he is taking the mick.

I would be asking to change instructor, he should not be using your time to fill up the car or do deliveries.

If they wont give you another instructor i would be asking for my money back

  • You cannot 'break the car' by revving it while not in gear. It is almost impossible, all modern vehicles have rev limiters.

Thanks for the replies. Im crying because i feel like a complete fool for putting up with it for so long. They are getting a call off me today so im hoping they will be open. Its a small ish company i would say. I dont mind either a refund or different instructor with same company. Thanks ever so much ! x

  • 50 hours so far......buy a bike! ;)

    Sorry :o

Phone and ask for another instructor with the company. Maybe you'll feel more comfortable with a new instructer and begin to relax more and stop the silly mistakes. Good luck.

50 lessons and not upto pass standard yet ,then you really need to change instructors. They are like teachers some touch you and you develop ,some make you ungraded .Best of luck op spend your money else where.

    Thanks very much !

I feel like such a fool ! Sorry for the language. Im lucky that i can afford to have these lessons. Its when he speaks to me like crap it knocks my confidence. And everytime its time for me to head back home i always go as fast as possible. And he has even commented on that ... fingers crossed ill have another instructor. Either a refund or new instructor, they wont get away with it that easily ! Thanks very much xx

I have to agree 50 lessons is a lot, time for a new instructor I think.
