I find anything with batter to pad ingredients out is always good. Pancakes for breakfast, kids always think thats a treat, but its usually when we`re poor. Toad in the hole, or apple/pineapple fritters with syrup.
I just made egg fried rice with pork left over from a joint, went down really well with all 3 kids, just fried onions and garlic until soft, added pork until heated through, made scrambled egg type stuff mixed in and then added cooked and cooled rice, a bit of soy later and its just like takeawa, you could use leftover from any joint or add any veg you have lying around
I remember sometimes when first married eating beefburgers and rice for days on end as had no money, wasnt nice, but im still here 15 years later, your wee boy wont remember in a few weeks that he ate cheap food for a month, as long as its nutritious and he has his milk and vitamins he wont know. Much better for you to have a tight month, than go borrow money at a high interest rate just to buy food, when it is possible to eat very well on what you have or can afford. Cheap cuts of meat are just as good for you as fillet steak!!
Good luck, and congrats on the wedding, KayFrugal living challenge 2023 £7500 for 2 adultsJanuary grocery challenge £60.55/ £2000 -
I've heard that if you go to the bakery section and ask one of the bakers, they'll give you some fresh yeast free.

Just to add to this idea... You can cut sandwiches out with biscuit or (clean!) playdough cutters to get child-friendly shapes. It can make the most boring marmite sarnie look quite special if it's star shaped!
Oh, and I've just remembered home-made popcorn. You can make masses out of a small packet using a pan with a lid and a little bit of cooking oil. It's nice slightly salted.0 -
You could do a big bowl of cold pasta for the party.
Cook half a bag of pasta, fusilli twists, drain and cool . Mix tinned tuna, with finely chopped tomatoes cucmber onion, sweetcorn, salt and pepper and mayonnaise or seafood sauce .
Home made coleslaw ,half a white cabbage thinly shredded a couple of grated carrots , thinly sliced onion and value mayonnaise.
Potato salad if you have tinned potatoes, drain and chop into quarters, add finely sliced spring onions or chives , garlic powder and mayo.
The packets of dried savoury rice are cheap and easy and nice served cold too.
all cheap to make and makes big bowlfuls.
I also make quick french bread pizza with the tesco value half baked baguettes, about 40p for 2 Halve lengthways and spread with either value pasta sauce or tomato puree, grated cheese and any toppings you may have, 10 minutes in the oven til chese is bubbling.0 -
