So is the internet security one is a more complete package?
Does it do the same job as Norton 360?
Sorry - I'm clueless at all this!!!
  • As the original OP I thought I would just update you all as to my progress!

Have been 'offline' for a few days now so have not been able to respond or reply to anyone. This is what happened.....
As per RIK suggestions I did all this (uninstalled Norton, Installed Avira and PCtools firewall. All seemed fine until some smart !!!! (friend of a friend I know locally) who I was relaying my story to, ummed and ahhhed and said ' If I were you I'd go out and buy an off the shelf product!'. So as a totally non techinical person then doubted what I had done (of which I had felt very proud of myself and learnt alot in the process!). So off I trotted to pC World, bought Kaspersky (half price for £19 something). Unistalled everything RIK had told me to do (although it was working fine) and installed Kaspersky. INTERNET GONE!!!!!!! As soon as I had installed Kaspersky it totally locked me out of my internet. Took 3 days to get it back (after taking laptop to very clued up IT person). They could not solve the problem and in the end I uninstalled Kaspersky and put back Windows firewall, AVIRA anti virus and spybots. I now have my internet back!!!!! yipppeeeee. I think all the original advice as per RIK and others i.e. you do not need to spend a fortune on glossy looking boxes in PC World (after sales person frightens the life out of you saying that hackers will get into your system - so you pay £20 - £90 quid on stuff you can get free on the web! FREE I SAID!!!!! Don't waste your money. Use the recommended free sites as per all the helpful people on this thread and learn a bit yourself at the same time. Thanks for everyones help. Hope my feedback saves anybody the stress I have had. Although maybe Kaspersky does do what it says on the tin, I thought these off the shelf packages were designed ' for the stupid people' to protect their PC's easily and without techie knowledge. I don't think so! Anyway, I'm back and online and would to thank all who have responded to this thread. Cheers!!!
Why did I not have the LBM years ago?
LBM Dec 2008 -Debt total then £18,802.24.
    August 2010 - Student Loan £5526.
Loan £5642 -£3000 saved towards final payment:)
    Balance Outstanding £8168.

I've used kaspersky full suite for the last ten months and been very impressed. Before then I had used AVG,Avast and Avira, though not at the same time:D.
Kasperky does take a bit of user time but I've not had a single virus/problem with pc while its been on.
Its near to renewal so I'm going to uninstall it and get a new cop from Amazon as that seems cheaper than the renewal fee.Bit silly eh.

I have used Kaspersky for the last 12 months and it is an excellent product, I used to use Avast which is free but had to get Kaspersky when Avast let me down. I have 3 PC's at home and 3 at work and they all use Kaspersky. I would not consider anything else. Just read the techie reviews of anti virus software and you will soon change to Kaspersky. 3 user licenses can usually be had for about £10 on ebay.
  • I have recently had to change my security software from Sophos after using for many years. It was supplied by my employer under their corporate licence that also covered homeworkers. It successfully protected their 180 user network as well as many outworkers and it was easy and unobtrusive to use (although the firewall was very sensitive to Windows updates)
When they switched to a Mcafee package (???) I tried various alternatives and ended up with Avast, Comodo Firewall and Malwarebytes freebies. This combination gave me the confidence that I was used to with Sophos. However I really wanted a one stop single update package.
Then my bank offered a half price Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 package so I bought a 3 PC, 2 year licence and in short, I am very impressed with it because it does exactly what it says on the tin.
When I did the first full scan it didn’t find any nasties but it did alert me to half a dozen software “issues” that needed security updates (including Acrobat and Real Player Ads settings) – impressed.
On the other hand it doesn’t appear to detect MS Office service packs so it duly prompted me to check all of them- pain in the chuff.
I think the bottom line is if you want to protect yourself confidently without having to fork out then follow the advice given by Rik & Browntoa on here. However if you are prepared to pay for a package that more or less looks after itself and checks your applications status then Kaspersky IS 2009 is, in my humble opinion, hard to fault.
Motivatedworkingmum – sorry to here about your experiences with Kaspersky but I think that your problems may have been caused by Norton remnants and Kaspersky clashing. There is an article here that may offer a (well known) solution if you want it
    http://support.kaspersky.com/kis2009/error?qid=208279683
    – or maybe you are happy with what you have.

St Piran – Yes the Internet Security 2009 is a complete package although I may still use Malwarebytes now and again because I like it. I have never used Norton 360 since I have come across many problems caused by it’s forefathers but reading the specs Kaspersky is very similar except for the lack of on line back up for data files.

    Yes

Registry mechanic has probably deleted something it shouldnt have (Which is why I always suggest people dont use 'most' registry cleaners)
Hopefully theres a 'backup' of the deleted files somewhere. Open it up and see if you can reinstall the registries
