PC Slow or even worse

Sorry for the delay guys had to go back to being a Missus and a Mum.

I have worked through the detailed list David, and done some of the suggestions, but tbh though I has cut out most of the "thrashing" it is still doing it just looking up a web page, and I don't get that on the laptop, and that is what is confusing me. I did change the display options to best performance, but did no like the result, so have reversed that to let windows chose, and it does not appear to have made much difference.

The speed has improved but still tbh not what I beleive it should be, even just typing in a web page name, there is a delay lag, so I will end up doing a rebuild at some point. Considering getting a new large HDD so I can just completely copy and then sort out later.

I still cannot get my head around while it only has IE open with a MSE page loaded that the HDD keeps hunting.

I know you will probably tell me to go away from IE, but the family history program I use needs IE to do look ups for me, so it has to be my default, even though I use others I am still more familiar with IE.

So it only happens on the net now? (baring mind mind, the computer will ALWAYS use the hard drive periodically even when nothings running as such)
Open IE
Goto TOOLS
MANAGE ADD ONS
and disable all the cr*p thats not needed
(For example, I believe you have a CRUCIAL addon, money manager addon etc)

You also have a NERO indexing service. Turn that off

Starting to think we are trying to push water up here now as it is "chattering away" big style again this morning. I think we have improved the speed, but starting and closing are still lengthy processes, so looks like a wipe clean and watch what I load/add in is on the cards.

But next time it goes nuts. Shut down all programs
get TASK MANAGER running and try to determine which 'running processes' may be the cause.
