    Has he done a stock take yet?????

    If anthing was missing the cost would still be considerably less than the cost of the free publicity he generated for his business.

    Our local farm shop has an honesty box,you choose what you want and then write it in the book.Sometimes the box is full of notes,but everyone around here seems to be trustworthy.Its nice to be able to trust people.

    There was a little farm shop like that near Gedges Hill, Paddock Wood, and I used to go and take some fruit, eggs and vegetables and leave the payment in their honesty box. It makes me feel so good when they have faith in others. It makes me want to go there more often.

    thats amazing that people didnt nick stuff

    great shame that, could be true these days.

    When I was young we had a small corner shop that left out a few teabags, small bag of sugar, box of matches, a light bulb etc on a table with a box next to it for putting the money in, in case you ran out of things (shops closed a 6pm prompt then). We used and paid and it worked fine till he retired 22 years ago. This was in south east london, not a wealthy area but had nice honest people around, I doubt these days he would have made it to his car before it was all nicked.

    I must be getting old...remenissing now:rolleyes:

    We leave money in a tin for eggs at the side of the road and also for flowers in the summer. You also get people selling fruit and veg at the side of the roads too. I assume everyone pays up cos they've been doing it since I was a kid. I think its great that this man had such faith in his town to do this. Only wish it could be said for everywhere.
    The Sun also ran a story on how they put some papers out to see who would pay and to see which city was most honest;

    Did anyone see that video where a wallet stuffed with cash was left on the floor in the middle of a busy high street? They drew a big circle around it and left it there all day and nobody touched it!

    Surprised no one called the Police, remember seeing one of those crime investigation programs, where a store was found open but with no staff. One customer finally reported it to the cops and when the in-store security camera was replayed it showed loads of customers leaving cash and finally the image of the store clerk being abducted.

    I seen that. Think it was CSI.
    Anyhoo back to the topic. I think it would work in a very small, close-knit town. Certainly wouldn't work in Edinburgh :rotfl:

    LOL! Nor London! Wouldn't last 2 seconds before it was either ransacked, burnt to the ground by some ASBO kids or someone waded in and pretended to be the store owner, then took all the money and left at the end of the day.
