Cat scratching car

lol it's not pleasant (Which is the idea) but it's not cruel no lol0

I'd worry that if the cat's claws were trimmed then it might make things worse.
It's still going to attempt to scratch and the semi bluntness might make more of a mess than an untrimmed sharp claw.
It's for that reason I don't trim our cats' claws - they're still going to go hunting and I figure that it's probably more torture to the bird/mouse being hacked at with a blunt claw.

my cats are indoor cats - so trimmed claws are a MUST. otherwise my sofa will end up looking like a giant hamster bed0

a supersoaker? Is that a water pistol? I've got a pressure washer but I think that may be a tad extreme!
Those yoghurts are my fave too, spanish orange mmmmm.
Its NOT nearly as powerful as a pressure washer:rotfl:
The point is, you can use it covertly from a distance.
The idea being that the cat doesn't see you doing it.
If the cat knows you do it, he will fear you.
If it just "happens" he will fear getting on your car;)0 -

When my youngest moggy was a kitten she started this strange habit of jumping on top of my wardrobes & also happily climbing & swinging on my net curtains so I started clipping her claws. She stopped climbing the nets - but continued the wardrobe assaunts - the bluntness of the clipped claws then meant that as she refused to stop jumping up onto the wardrobes she then left gouged scratches on the pine wooden wardrobe doors....
Good luck - I think an alarm &/or a water pistol sound like the best idea0 -
Oh get a grip, it's only a car!
My cats sleep all the time on my car, and they do occassionally put a minor scratch in it the roof/bonnett.
I cannot believe that you're so obsessed a bit of metal in the drive that just gets you from A to B is causing you so much stress.
Stop being so materialistic and enjoy life.A friend is someone who understands your past, believes in your future, and accepts you just the way you are.0 -
I agree with those recommending a water assault.
Here this is what you need

It's only 7.90 and it says it covers 20 feet.*Make every day Caturday*0 -
I think that's really rude & there is a difference between your own cat & someone else's making damage on your property. I know I wasn't happy when my own cat damaged my furniture but I would be fuming if it was someone elses!0

I'm a cat lover, but I have a now one year old car (from new) & my DH has a 1.5 year old car.
I wouldn't have mine or anyone elses cats scratching it:rolleyes:
Hiw much did your car cost, because if its 20k (an average annual salary) I'm surprised at your lax attitude:rolleyes:0 -
I think there are two issues that need to be separated. One that you don’t get on with your neighbours and two that a cat is scratching your car.
It appears there is nothing practical your neighbours can do to prevent the cat jumping up on the roof which you yourself can't do (it is probably unreasonable to expect your neighbours to clip the cat’s claws and probably won’t work anyway) and so the issues are separate ones.
If you link the two issues then you are in danger of looking like the “bad” neighbour when you are in fact coming across as a reasonable and tolerant person. Many would respond that given the number of cats killed or injured by cars killed, then the real problem is of cars to cats and not cats to cars. There is a balance between the rights and responsibilities of car owners and the rights and responsibilities of cats and their owners.
I do appreciate it is others who are linking the issues rather than you the OP but I can see this thread diverting away from the main question of what you practically can do.
So I think the onus is to find practical and humane solutions such as covering the car or squirting the cat with water. Hopefully others will have more ideas.
Good luck with finding a solution.MSE. Abandon hope all ye who enter here0
