Didn't you just get the mini two hour heatwave which ended 16 mins ago??

And or what it's worth I agree about Dynamo (I have visions of the Electric Stalker from the Running Man). I got my new DD figure from Dynamo's company today (remember I said how sunshine and daffodils it all was) they wanted to take £390 every month from 15th July. I thought they'd got their decimal points mixed up. Anyhoo I phoned and was told, I'd input wrong data, they didn't make mistakes, customers fill out online stuff wrong ALL the time, it was my own fault. She breathed and then cheerfully said "I'll change it to £70 for you. All done." Is that schizophrenic or what...sticking your tongue in the mains will do that to you.

KJ, so loving the piccies you use in your posts!!!

Sorry its just a quick one (ooo-er) from me. I am supposed to be revising for job interviews that are looming. Woe is me. I'd rather be doing other stuff, but I must, I must, I must, research. Sheer hell. That's what it is.

    Evening all hellowave.gif

I need some advice please. We just found out at work today that people of my level ("Managerial" despite me not managing anyone!) are going to have to reapply for their roles and that some of us might get made redundant. We won't know if this will happen until August time.

I believe that voluntary redundancy is going to be an option, and for me that would mean just under £12,000 tax free. This would be a very nice start to me and Mr Fresian's plan to move to the country....but I don't know if it would be worth the risk.

I like my current job well enough, but won't know until Monday if my current role will remain in the New Structure. If not, I may have to be a Team Manager, which I don't want to do. Should I go for voluntary redundancy and cut my losses??

I'm scared that if I choose to be made redundant I might not find another role, but I don't want to stay in a job that isn't right for me.....

    HELP!!

    Wow that's a biggie.

All I would say is that in the current climate there are less jobs than I've ever ever ever seen before. I've been out of work 5 months and not 1 interview, 15 yrs as a snr manager, top company ratings, MBA, Prince2, MSP, MBCI etc etc. I jumped and naively / arrogantly thought I'll have a contract role before the ink dries. They are stopping all applications after a couple of days due to volumes. And I'm certainly not alone out there but you may work in a very different field.

If you can stretch the money and know you have six months or a year then you can plan and use the time constuctively and if a job pops up bonus, if not you have other things to be doing. If you will spend every day and night panicing then maybe not.

You can try another role for up to 6 months (I think) and opt for redundancy during the trial period if it's not for you. That would buy you more time if you want the £12k as a lump sum.

I'm sorry a thousand times over if that seems negative but jobs at the moment are hugely based on luck or serendipitous factors as well as experience, qualifications, tenacity etc and it helps keep your self esteem from being completely destroyed if you acknowledge that fact.

Other thing I'd recommend is all the outplacement services that they'll probably offer, CV writing, interview skills, career options, self employment etc etc....grab every single thing with both hands and use any notice period to up your qualifications, do all the company courses you can find and job hunt...you're entitled up to about 5 days paid leave to find extra work. Also as a good leaver you'll be able to do keep any bonus shares etc without penalty.

Hope something in there is remotely helpful.

Have to say I think staying put is the best option becuase of the current climate

have the plan to escape & do whatever you can to make it possible, evening classes etc & then when the time is really right you'll be able to make your move without the financial worries as it will all have been planned for
I do not make mistakes, I learn lessons.
I work to live, not live to work.
I love to live & live to love.
    Good enough is exactly that.

    hi fresian.

i heard about the further job cuts at your Big Bank today & immediately thought of you. it's a tough one, but see what the New Structure brings and go from there. even a team manager job may be better than no job - only you know how comfortable you would be with (potentially) no job for a while versus how unhappy you would be in a role that you don't want to do. not much help, i'm afraid - but i know you'll explore all your options before you jump ship or stay put. fancy a dodgy hug from tomtom? ;) x

just to add my little thought on the eon man (and again with no offence meant!), i also felt the slightly strange vibe going on! however i am intrigued by the energy monitor thing.

good luck with your decisions. xxx
