thanks now I remember, so did I!! It just seems so long ago I forgot! must be the stress!. Spoke to the National Debtline yesterday, and it seems their DRO waiting list is starting to go down - previously waiting time was 8 weeks, and now it is about 6 weeks. :j
The waiting time at your local CAB may be shorter but you need to check if they have an approved intermediary. We have 2 and our waiting time is about 1 week for the initial appointment, then 2-3 dependant on the experian report coming back :)
    Hope that helps.

Hi. could someone please remind me: Is the credit check done when you first speak to Debt councilor to decide if youre suitable for a DRO, or is it the intermediary who does this when actually filing the DRO?? thanks :)
You can be given the form by whoever you see at the first interview. It doesn't have to be an AI. However in my experience an AI has to send it to experian with a cover letter signed by them.

  • Another question, sorry, but would be very grateful if anyone could share their experience..

Is self employed income averaged over 12 months to work out your income? I am worried that if I apply for a DRO and then have one good month, it will be revoked..

I have done my statement of affairs based on my average income, and this says I ahve less than £50 surplus income per month, but will the IS accept this?

    Thanks again :)

I phoned my CAB first. Unfortunately, whoever I spoke to was extremely unfriendly, and put me right off. I was also told by my CAB there was a long waiting list. After I spoke to the National Debtline, I felt much more at ease, and found them extremely helpful and sympathetic. I decided to go ahead with them, even thought the waiting was longer. I suppose everyone has different experiences. I just cant wait till this is allthrough though....At least I will be able to answer the phone again!!! :money:
Aww that's a shame. Sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Sadly it can vary from bureau to bureau but I'm glad the National Debtline were able to help :)

The DRO will be granted on the information provided as far as I'm aware. You need to base it on a usual month. Extra pay due to overtime etc is irrelevant you need to do a realistic financial statement, and so long as this shows less than £50 pm surplus it should be acceptable.

  • Thanks very much immoral_angeluk (love the name btw!), i know I will be able to get answers once I start the ball rolling, I'm just trying to get all my info together and understand the process before I get to that point and the info from this board is really helpful :A
  • A quick question -

Companies I included on my DRO in October 09 are still sending me statements which add charges and interest. Should this be happening? Obviously it will affect the final balances. I know they know I have a DRO but still they send me these letters.

It is acceptable for them to send you statements through your moratorium period. Provided you make it to the end of the year, all the debts are discharged so whatever they do your balance doesn't matter.

Just to clarify - you are not liable for'extra charges' when you are discharged from the DRO
  • Thanks very much, I was getting worried they were going to try and chase me after the moratorium period
