Hi,
I can assure you that cars under £1000 are always an exempt item. All the training for DRO'S comes through the IMA (institute of money advisers) I am an IMA member, like many in the debt specialist field.
The reason is not to be over generous its that the insolvency service, as a norm, do not want any investigation or work regarding assets.
Thats why;
No IPA'S - No work involved in assessment or collection of payments
£ 300 Asset limit - no investigation in to assets
£1000 car exempt limit - no investigation if car NEEDED rather than wanted - no valuation done ( we do that !!! )
No routine investigation of those under a DRO.
We send all the applications directly by e - mail to the insolvency DRO unit in Plymouth. They wont have time to investigate much - there's only 3 examiners and one OR in the DRO team !
Once we send the e mail then a unique bar code is sent to the client which they take to a paypoint outlet, and when £ 90 is paid ( either in full or over 6 months) the DRO is then processed.

Thanks DD.Was not sure if my daughter is unemployed will the car then be classed as wanted rather than "needed". How is that interpreted?. In terms of bc versus DRO,,do the same rules apply?

Sorry:o
Hi Dalip,
In a DRO there is no interest in a car worth less than £1000 for any reason at all, you do not have to prove a need.
In BR if you cant prove a NEED for a car then it is at risk as an assett even if it is worth a few hundred quid, the OR would ask you to make him / her an offer. Does vary from area to area as we know.
