Debt Relief Orders (DRO) - Information & help thread

Thank for your speedy and comprehensive response Orville,
Just to clarify;
1. I owe nothing to other banks... only to one bank.
... so I hope to be able to keep my basic visa debit account with the good bank, and paypal connections.
2. It's OK, I have no intention of hiding any of my bank accounts. After all, I don't want to get into any trouble.
3. Citizens Advice have already informed me of the max. £50 / m excess etc. I will also meet the requirements of the income/expenditure sheet, if indeed I do go ahead.
4. I am assuming that if I do go ahead with DRO, and I have to conduct my financial affairs in a certain way for one year, then providing I do this properly, all my debts (as declared in my DRO) will be written off?
Yes in a nutshell to No4.But if at a later date even after it's ended it was found for instance you made a fradulant application, or say got a job earning more money taking you over the £50 limit, it could then be revoked and you'd be back to Sq 1. But providing you do it by the book, you'll be fine.

Hey, thanks again
... and what's that I hear you say? You didn't have the DRO on your experian report? That's incredible!
Is that while you were going through the one year DRO process, or afterwards (during the 6 year post-DRO period)?
I haven't ever had a DRO or bankruptcy, yet I was refused a Post Office credit card recently, and they stated that the reason was because of failing Experian.0 -

I checked after it ended on-line and no it's not on there. i haven't checked equifax, but i think it is on that one. For instance i am going self employed and applied for a business account with barclays. He did a credit check infront of me and it came up clear. He said it was with experian, and granted me a business account. I also applied for a sim only vodafone deal which is credit checked as part of the application and i passed that too.
However i tried for a business account with my own bank Santander first but i failed due to a credit check, (even though i passed their internal scoring). So i reckon it must be on the equifax one.0 -
Just a brief note (fatbelley pls feel free to correct me).
Your housing overpayment and council tax won't get written off when you go for the dro. I think you would still be liable for them.
Hi Orville
HB overpayments and other benefit overpayments are still non-excluded and as for Council Tax arrears, a DRO is often the most effective way to deal with them. You just have to have lost the right to pay in instalments.
However, loans from the Social Fund are excluded as from Monday and some of my colleagues have been pushing their applications forward this week so as to get them included.
I do have one guy who is over the 15k limit and was finding it difficult to get £525 together for bankruptcy. But the sudden rule change means that from Monday his SF loan is excluded and he will be able to get a DRO for £90!0 -
Well, another update, on Friday about 3pm I rang in with the up to date balances. Was then told it had been electronically sent.
Because it was over the weekend, how long would it show on the Insolvency web site? Hopefully approved.
Also, the £90 fee was paid the day before.0 -

Should be on there within the next 24 hours, if it's not already. Have you looked to see if it is?.

Hi Orville, yes checked a few moments ago and nothing there:o
Can they be slower if done Friday afternoon as nothing seems to happen over the weekend.0 -
I'm not the person doing the DRO I am a Carer doing it, I used Experian's online servce to send off the credit report and there is about a week left on it.
Just been on and there are 2 searches by the Insolvency Service!
One says: Identification Generic check
other says: Check or Enquiry
is this normal?0 -
Checked the Insolvency website at 7am, and the gentleman I have been helping was on there.I'm a Carer)
One thing I did with CCCS's permission instead of sending off for a paper Experian report, it was got online and printed off.
As I have permission to check on things I checked the searches on Experian and on the 19th March the Insolvency had performed 2 searches themselves.
I knew they did more checks but just to let other folk know really.
The application was put through on Friday 16th mid afternoon, so can I just ask even though the order was granted on the 19th all debts are from the 16th March when it was submitted?
Thanks for help on this board:j0 -
