After getting my DRO on the 14th April i have today received a letter from the council tax dept telling me they have obtained a liability order on the 21st April for council tax arrears that were included in the DRO. I have emailed them telling them i have a DRO in place but unsure what will happen next. I was told that the court hearing wouldnt go ahead after getting the DRO
Also the water board have sent me another bill which invcludes arrears from the previous year,
I thought all this wouldnt be happening now
What do i do0 -

Because the council tax arrears were included in the DRO, the liability order should not have been issued, emailing them to inform them of the DRO was the right thing to do, might be worth sending in a copy of your approval notice.
Were your water arrears included in your DRO? if so they cannot bill you for them, only for this year's bill, and again, make sure you inform them of your right0 -
Lotsaquestions - you're very unlucky. That's a court claim for water arrears (see posts last week) and a liability order for Council Tax after putting both in a DRO! I'm wondering if somehow the letters from the DRO unit to the creditors did not go out.
I agree with WBA - both need documentary evidence of your DRO - and I think the water authority owes you some compensation.0 -
Well i know that my bank First Direct are awareoff it as thery wrote to me and froze my account
The intermediatary told me that the creditors would be informed electronically and ive had no phone calls from credit card compamies since so some of them seem to know0 -
just reading up on this as I'm considering opting for a DRO, mainly as I've spent the last 7 years eeking away at my debts and dont think I could handle another 7 before I'm out of the woods.
My concern is that it says you pay £90 to apply but then it could still get refused. I dont really want to pay that much money to be told no. If I was to be unlucky and refused, would this, or most of it, get refunded or is that a risk I have to take? If not, then can anyone advise as to why it might be refused?
Personally I dont see why I would refused be as I owe 14k (see my sig, plus 1.5k uni fee's no mentioned) and am lucky to have £30 left at the end of the month - this is without taking into account clothes/haircuts as I just cant afford them - and with my recent illness last year I'm now in trouble with uni fee's, littlewoods and simplybe arrears increasing. I've managed to keep up on the minimum payments on my 3 credit cards and 2 loans though I have made the odd late payment on credit cards in the last 12 months so in my eye's I'm getting only just getting into real trouble.
sorry if this has been asked already or if the answer's are in the mounds of PDF's I've found but it IS a lot of reading so am hoping for some of that well known, friendly help/advice on here
thanks in advance0 -
I would just like clarification - the bit that says
"You can own a car to the value of £1000 but the total value of other assets must not exceed £300"
I dont own a car, home or even have a bank account any more - but I'm sure the sum total
of bits and bobs I have would total more than £300 - Fridge, cooker, washing machine (I don't own a telly)
If this is the case isn't a DRO a bit pointless, as surely most people would have assets totalling more than £300?0 -

Everything will be ok in the end, and if it isn't ok then it isn't the end0 -
Yes I though that antiques, vintage wine cars etc would be - but it makes sense that fridges freezers etc shouldn't as people don't generally buy them as an investment !! or buy them to sell on for a profit0
