Debt Relief Orders (DRO) - Information & help thread

  • Hi all, I've been discussing my debt situation with Payplan and they have recommended we go down the DRO route. This is a bit worry to us as we've never been in financial trouble before.

I recently became unemployed with almost £10,000 worth of debt - most of which is on credit cards. Up until this I have never missed a single payment and all payment have been on time.

We have now missed two payments on all of our accounts are the phone is constantly ringing.

For the purpose of the DRO I have included ALL household income including shared benefits and child benefits - however all the debts are in my sole name so I'm not 100% sure this is right.

For me the clothing budget seems high on a monthly basis but realistically over a 12 month period, clothing 4 people and including school uniforms this will probably be right.

    All feedback welcome.
Your 'other' expenditure (clothing, emergency funds, child costs etc seems high and may not be acceptable, however I don't have the trigger figures to hand so I'd imagine that someone else will be able to confirm if it's within the guidelines...
Otherwise I can't see anything wrong with that, other than your travel expenses being very low, why is this? What are the details of the debts you have?

No i don't think so either. Fermi is there anyway you can find out for sure. i know you can still apply for loans but you can't go over £499.99 without then having to inform who you are getting a loan from that you are under a DRO.
That's pretty much it, as far as I'm aware there's nothing stopping you, but one condition of a DRO is that if you get any credit over £500 you have to inform the creditor you are subject to a DRO. It might be worth calling the jobcentre and asking. :)

Are they in your name, or do you have them in trust?

Won't make a difference then, don't worry. DROs only affect things in your name.

  • Hi there, just wondering if anyone could help me,

I have an appointment with my local CAB on the 16th, When making my appointment the lady on the phone asked rough details of my debts etc and is sending me out something called a debt pack.

I would just like to know if there is anything that I could bring with me to speed up the process a little bit? such as statements and maybe my credit report? It is unlikely that I will have the £90 fee on that particluar day but if there is anything else that could be useful.

    Thankyou very much in advance
