Debt Relief Orders (DRO) - Information & help thread

Just to keep people updated on my OH's progress with his DRO application, it was approved today, almost 15 weeks after we started the process with CCCS. So worth the wait, now that I'm bankrupt and he's got a DRO I can look forward to no more phone calls :j(well, if I get the odd call I can tell them)
Here's to the start of the rest of our lives :beer:0 -
Hiya Princess1984.
Congrats on it all going smoothly!
Hope you're both more relaxed now.
This whole / pending DRO situation, I'm finding very stressful, so I'd appreciate your thoughts on the below please -
I have been to the CAB 10 days ago, to apply for a DRO.
They are about to send out the barcoded letter, to me on Monday.
Do any of you know, if it is now too late, for me to go with someone else?
I would prefer to now go through CCCS, for the DRO instead, as the CAB are now being difficult.
Or, will my original DRO application / list of debts stay on the Insolvency Service's system?
I am worried, as my new DRO application with CCCS, will not have one of my original creditor's one there -
Long story short, a £500 debt to The Money Shop, will possibly be paid off by a friend over the next few days -
The Insolvency Service, have confirmed that I would not be breaking the law / not be 'showing one creditor preferential treatment, over another' either.
They confirmed, that as a 'third party' would be paying it off, that no debt then exists, and that I could ask the CAB to remove the debt from the DRO list..
The CAB lady, now tells me this afternoon, that I should NOT pay off the Money Shop (even though it would be my Girlfriend paying it) as I'd be 'showing preference'!
She said she'd have to write on my DRO form, that she'd advised me not to pay it off / that I'd ignored her advice and paid it off anyway / shown preference.
This I obviously can do without - as the OR will then want to investigate, and I do not want to risk the DRO being revoked.
I really do not know what to do.
Am I now 'committed' to going through the CAB for the DRO, as they are about to send out the barcode?
Cheers,

To my understanding, the DRO is not submitted to the IS for approval until the £90 fee is paid.
Therefore I think you would be able to change intermediary without it creating a problem, although you will have to start from scratch again, and may have to wait a while depending on waiting lists.I used to be Snow White, but I drifted.Mae West

Hi Elfieb
Many Thanks for this info.
Was just worried, as I heard that the CAB leave the info on the IS's system?
I think I might try CCCS.0 -
As surely the barcode, comes from the IS?
Thus - I will trip myself, by going to the CCCS, as they will then see my details, are already on the system :-/0 -

Im pretty sure that the first the IS see of an application is when it is submitted to them upon payment of the £90 fee.
I had a similar situation, originally scheduled to do a DRO with National Debt Line, but the waiting proved to much for me so switched to Baines and Ernst, as at the time they were a good queue jump! Never caused any problems for meI used to be Snow White, but I drifted.Mae West

As many have said on here before, the £90 fee doesnt really buy that much time from the IS, so they are not going to be searching for something out of the ordinary!
Have you tried PMing DebtDoctor or Fatbelly.......they both work as intermediaries, and will be able to give you a conclusive answer.I used to be Snow White, but I drifted.Mae West

The CAB sorted my DRO out beautifully, such an easy process, and was lightning quick compared to what some other people have said. I have a copy of all my paperwork so this may be of some use to you
The barcoded letter says:
This letter is to enable you to make a payment to The Insolvency Service in full or part payment of the £90.00 fee. This fee must be paid to the service BEFORE your application can be submitted. Your application will be cancelled if The Insolvency Service has not received the payment within 10 days of submission.2011 Wins: Recipe book
Big thanks to all comp posters x
