I have just 3 creditors, my bank (£300 overdraft) which I use daily - guess I ought to start a back up plan there, 1 loan and 1 credit card which were all included in the DRO.

Its just my Bank Account I am concerned with, but I can arrange my payments to go into hubby's for time being until things settle down I guess.

It's really up to the bank as to what they do with your account as only the overdraft is included in the DRO, not the whole bank account. However I'd imagine as soon as it kicks in they'll probably close the whole account. Either way you should've been advised to get your normal banking set up somewhere away from anyone you owe debt to to prevent them taking money using setting off clauses and making them preferential creditors. I'd change banks ASAP if you haven't done so already and get your income out of there before they potentially close the account once they get notification of the DRO.

    Thank you

I've just chased up the Co-op as I tried to apply last week for a cash minder and the computers went down. Have also changed Tax Credits etc to hubby's for time being. :o)

Sounds like a good plan to be on the safe side. Although DROs don't have direct affect on bank accounts like bankruptcy does, banks withhold the right to close any accounts for various reasons os it's always better to be safe than sorry :)

  • Hurray! After 8 nail biting weeks, advisory from the national debt line contacted me today to start processing my DRO application. We basically went over the form I filled in with incoming and outgoing payments. Call took approximately 30 mins. Advisory will put form in post for me tomorrow for signing, along side barcode that I use to pay the £90 fee. I will update as things happen, to give people idea of time scale involved at this point.

I would like to apply as soon as possible.

It appears from other posts that Baines & Ernst are quick, but are they reliable?

    Thanks in advance.

    Good luck Christine! :)

Jonny, have no experience of Bains and Ernst myself so couldn't say either way. Had a quick mooch on their website and from first glance it appears genuine but I wouldn't like to say...
