The doctors are an external company employed by DLA and they are actual GP's so I think the idea of a bonus is not true. I also do not believe that they target the most vulnerable they are sent to cases with a big change in circumstances etc or where the needs according to the claimant do not fit with the claimes disability/medication eg. a person claiming to be unable to walk yet only taking paracetamol - of course things like this need to be further investigated.
They do get bonuses, and this had been discussed elsewhere on the forums. Do not have time to go look for it to link, but it does happen.
As to them not targeting the weakest, there are many on here that have given up trying to get help despite being in a disabled position. I, myself was turned down and had to go through the expensive appeals system despite having the evidence from a specialist neuro-surgeon that explained exactly what is wrong and how it will affect me, and how I will deteriorate in fits and starts until........well, I'm not going there:o"there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

OK, well I'm not going to argue that one as I do not know the man in question.
However, would you think him an equally vile person were he filling in tax returns that defrauded millions? I would, you see - and that is the example that much of the Country offers:o ."there are some persons in this World who, unable to give better proof of being wise, take a strange delight in showing what they think they have sagaciously read in mankind by uncharitable suspicions of them"(Herman Melville)0 -

Suppose we will have to agree to disagree as we both know otherwise

They'd sell the food vouchers on ebay for 10%less and spend the cash on a holiday to Tenerife.
Thats easy, plaster 'it is illegal to transfer/buy/otherwise dispose of this voucher other than for its intended use' - or some other such legal jargon. Edited to add: That would also ensure that the children will actually get fed rather than the money being spent elsewhere.Proud to have dealt with my debts. no discipline, lousy teachers. its hopeless. still, as long as some nonsensical targets are met, they think they are doing well.
this govt has failed everyone - except those on benefits.
I would have to disagree.
Due to the problems with 2 of my children, I have had to work very closely with everyone from teaching assistants right the way upto the head teacher and I would say (especially at my youngests school), they have all been very dedicated and the most wonderful teachers you could ever meet.
They have not ignored the brightness of my children which is a long way from what happened to me in the 70's...I was/am bright but was not pushed so switched off, with my children, they are working with their intelligence to get the best out of them, this is despite some pretty difficult challenges that come with the boys disabilities.
I am also on a focus group (a form of parent/teacher group but without fundraising, we deal with the issues around education and change for the better within the school) at my middle sons high school which not only makes the school a better place for the students with easier access to learning but also gives the community a chance to get involved thus improving the parent - school relationship and a feeling of pride by the student. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
There is nothing stopping you being a school governor in a local school and helping interview teachers who apply for jobs in that school to ensure that bad ones don't get in.The_White_Horse wrote: »most children today are thick. its because they have been educated under a left wing dumbing down govt.

Except interviews would be held during school hours so if you're at work it might be difficult/impossible to get a day (or more) off for that. There is nothing stopping you being a school governor in a local school and helping interview teachers who apply for jobs in that school to ensure that bad ones don't get in.0 -
Not read the whole thread so not sure if this has been mentioned, but was speaking to my mother on New Years Eve and she was saying that some state in the US (sorry, cannot remember which one off the top of my head) had no money to pay for state benefits in January... She lives in Kentucky but I am sure if was the other side of the US she was referring to.. so guess there is always the possibility that the same could happen to the UK if people lots their jobs on mass?0

The US is not a good model for benefits... there are people living in real poverty there, genuine single mothers being forced to work extended hours leaving their kids to raise themselves, gun crime running riot, US citizens not even getting the basic healthcare we all enjoy here...

I was shocked by my peers' level of education when I started at a Comprehensive school aged 11 - one (very sweet) girl got the highest mark in the class when she wrote a story with no capital letters or full stops! We were even banned from accessing "difficult" books in the library. I took my 12+ and travelled 50 miles each way to the nearest grammar school in the end, where there was absolutely no trace of the "being fick is cool" culture...
Here in my part of Wales, it seems that everyone I know is being laid off or made redundant right now. My own employer has gone through restructure and, to avoid redundancy, from next week I'll be job-sharing with another girl, so going from 35 to 24 hours per week. PasturesNew, I think you suggested on Page 2 that we should all do this! Makes sense

That's the attitude we need.... negative.
Oh and I've found myself (when I was employed) and from other people particularly if they work for a large employer they are willing to give you time of for a certain amount of voluntary work. Most people don't ask. Obviously with SMEs this may be harder to achieve.I'm not cynical I'm realistic
