Hi All, i've been in this thread before, once a long time ago! I stopped smoking for a month but then had a stressful night and stupidly started again. Yesterday morning on the way to work i watched the Alan Carr easyway DVD and have not had one since. 28 hours later and here we are, i'm coughing lots (i wasn't two days ago) because my body is getting rid of the crap i deposited in there. Right now i'm a happy non smoker for 90% of my time (again) and i don't feel the urge to smoke, i've stopped carrying cigarettes with me but they are at home because the OH still smokes. I thought i would come on here and say hello, no doubt i will be posting more in the next few weeks to get some help along this journeyMortgage overpayments 2009

Hi All,
its day 4 for me and still no proper cravings as such. In the mornings before work i still think i am gonna have a cig and a cup of tea and i have to remind myself i aint smoking anymore.
While i am at work i keep myself busy so dont think about it at all. When i get home after work is when the urges begin. Again i just try and keep myself occupied, doing light exercise, having a shower, diy....and the odd choccy biscuit helps. I will be starting swimming again next week too which will keep me busy in the week. I have also found that everything tastes a lot sweeter now, i no longer have a sugar in my tea! I have also found that i get heartburn now too regularly, is this normal?
Saturday night will be a test for me tho as it will be the first time since giving up that i will be drinking (quiet a lot of) alcohol!0 -
Smiler 1982, well done you are doing really well. Did yuo know that the nicotine withdrawing from your body can't actually be felt and its all physchological? So this means you need to beat this with your brain, let it know that you don't need to smoke, even when drinking! i am going out friday night, i am looking forward to telling my old work mates that i've stopped smoking! I know i will be tempted to start again but i'm going to try and look down on them for smoking, and feel sorry that they have not the will power to give up.Mortgage overpayments 2009

Hi I am a newbie here and could really use some advise
I have been quit for 5 weeks now, but keep wanting to smoke whenever I get into an argument with my OH.
We had a big argument today at lunch and I went right out and bought a pack a soon as I was out of the house.
I have been so good and now I feel so guilty.
How does everybody else handle the stress ?0 -

I'm not much use really having just fallen off the wagon but just because you have a pack of fags doesn't mean you have to smoke them does it?
Stop and think, remember how good it has been the last few weeks, remember why you stopped.
Many people have a blip and stop smoking straight away again, try to be one of those. Good luck.We don't stop playing because we grow old; We grow old because we stop playing.0 -

I only had one and that was a few hours ago and I don't feel like any more.
It has been a great 5 weeks and its true, you do stop thinking about it, the longer you have been quit.
:T to everyone that has quit

Today has got to of been the worse day, I have not stopped thinking about smoking since the second I got up. I just keep thinking that all I have to do is to have a fag and I will feel so much better.

Stiil I'd rather be a bit rounder for a while and give up now than keep smoking. I'll deal any weight gain as and when I can. One thing at a time (however I will do my best not to put anymore on)!!
Has anybody else developed extremely bunged up and painful sinuses?? Mine are soooo uncomfortable, I can cope with the sore throat but the sinuses are horrid.
A great attitude re the weight Helen, it'll happen, meanwhile keep up the walking and stairs as well as any other exercise you can.
Re the sinus trouble, I suffered terribly with mine as soon as I stopped and used to 'stream' most of the day. I went to the Doc as it was that bad. He said it was all due to quitting and should be fine once they'd adapted. However, in my case he was wrong as I went onto develop a real problem with nasal polyps! Whether it was just coincidental or brought about by quitting we never knew, but it resulted in mine being removed.
Yours are different though and the blocking could well be due to them adapting. Before they get any worse I think I'd go to the Doc and let him/her take a look and see, my DH suffers with his and his are awfully painful - whereas ironically, I've never had pain with mine!
I was shocked to see you're on day 11 already, delighted you're so far in though! Very well done helnag, :TYou asked the question about does it get worse, and the answer, to my mind, is no ...not unless folk obsess about it! If everyone were to focus on getting on with life and, if struggling for a moment with 'thoughts', pushing their minds onto other wonderful parts of their lives, it would be so very much easier and they'd get throug. So just push on happy in your pride at getting back to a wonderful healthstyle Helen and you'll be doing marvellously!! Don't 'wait' for something that, more than likely won't come anyway. Be proud and be strong!
whathavewedone, you do so well in going through all the bad things about the problems that come with such a dreadful habit , personally I think you should be so very proud of yourself. Keep going the way you are now and you'll be one of the winners, for sure!!!
You're most welcome Mimi. Well, you've already achieved your first 2 days and what a great start it is! You're sounding very positive and doing all you can to push yourself through it, it's joy to see folk like you 3, really it is! I know there are plenty of others before anyone thinks I've forgotten them! However, it's you 3 who I'm writing to right now. I loved the part about the walk in the sunshine Mimi, the housework too, keep looking for the work and exercise as both will distract you. Keep strong, you've done it before - this time is for keeps!!!
ameliarate and stroppy, it's very sad to hear about you both giving in, especially you stroppy, but if your hearts aren't in it yet then there's nothing we can do. I sincerely hope you both come change your minds, if so come on back you know you'll be so very welcome.
A warm welcome back Dreamingalound, it's always good to see someone return to start over and regain control of their lives, good for you! A great attitude with your old work mates! Looking forward to seeing you as you progress!
Hi smiler and well done, another one with very positive thinking! You're really doing great so far, but be careful how much you drink or it could get you viewing things differently and going back to square one. Still, I don't somehow think you will, tell your mates you DON'T smoke anymore! Re the heartburn; could that be the buscuits? It's usually the other way round and that smoking can be the cause, coffee too, but if biscuits don't bode well with you, they could be the answer. See how you go, but if it persists try some Gaviscon from the chemist. Keep strong smiler!!
A warm welcome kris from canada! Well done on 5 weeks so far, aprt from stress cigs. Have you purposely got your PM permit turned off or do you prefer it that way? I tried to PM you about the stress, but found you don't accept them. If you'd prefer not to then I'll put some tips here tomorrow to (hopefully) help you. BTW are you make or female - it makes a bit of a difference re stress management.
Take a look at my reply to Helen above mumofcookers, hopefully it might help you, I hope it does. Also, alter your day around and do something different or eat/drink something different, things such as that really help. Plenty of water helps too, so too do oranges and apples.
All the very best again everyone, we have some more successes to look forward to I just feel it by the attitudes mostly, and most successful quitters are positive people, just like Naomi, Feedumall, Lula, Pixie and aging biker and so very many more. Join the numbers - you know you CAN do it, we ALL have it in us!:D
