I can't quit!!
Hi Sugg, do you want to expand a little for us? Have you tried previously and by which method? There are lots of us on this thread giving up in different ways and I think we all know; what works for one doesn't necessarily for another. For me it was trial and error, I spent the best part of a year trying and failing to stop. It was depressing but I was determined to do it and found something to suit me. Let us know what you have/haven't tried.I've never tried smoking. What am I missing from it all? AM I missing something from it
Yup, bad breath, poor gums, coated tongue, loss of taste, yellow teeth, stained fingers, dry skin, wrinkles, lank hair, smelly hair, more sore throats, colds, chest infections, lack of money, feelings of dseperation, more stress, gunked up lungs, COPD, empyshema and any other number of horrible illnesses...

Hi all, i hope you are all having a nice weekend? What crazy weather we had yesterday, snow, hail, sun and rain! It was like a scene from the day after tomorrow at one stage (i live in London).
On day 11 now, my OH wont stop smoking until I have completely done it. The reason for this is the last time we both tried at the same time we ended up fighting and taking out our faustration. At least this way when i have a rant she can accept it and move on and not fihgt back. When i'm done my OH can attempt and i can do the supporting.
On friday night i had another dream about smoking, but now i am on day 11 i just can't wait to say i am on day 14 then day 20 then 1 month! getting to these short milestones are the way to go i think.
Sue - sorry to hear about your sister in law. Sometimes life throws wierd books at us which we can't explain.
The main reason i decided to stop smoking is when i heard this short story!
Life had several stages,
Stage 1) Go to school, play and grow up into a young adult
Stage 2) Go to college, work your !!! off and try to get the best education for the best job possible
Stage 3) Get a job, have some fun, save up as much as possible
Stage 4) meet a partner, have some family, make sure you can support them for stages 1 and 2
Stage 5) have enough money to retire and do whatever you want in later life
Stage 6) enjoy family around you and grow old
Whats the point in smoking yourself to death in stages 1,2 and 3 to possibly not live until stage 4,5 and 6. Like Sue said, there are certain things in life we can't control but smoking is definately something we can control. Whats the point in doing something that can cut our lives short?Mortgage overpayments 2009

Can I ask how many of you's have used an Allen Carr product and has it done any good? If you look on Amazon the book has some excellent reviews, however its never done alot for me which makes me feel a bit odd. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. Hi have come back to say still off the dreaded fags since a relapse 2 weeks ago. Tried the nicotine inhaler and the nicotine tabs - which worked for me as little desire to smoke. I like them better than the patches but now the big task is to work out how to get off them!! Still its better than smoking!!
The big help starting now is the garden requires a lot of work which I feel will be a great help. Thanks for all your help and for those thaty are wobbly - carry on trying it really is worthwhile to start being a non smoker.- The house smells better
- Less cleaning required
- Clothes are cleaner
- Husband and friends happy
- Loads more money
- Cough gone though not wheeze
- Health care professionals a less scary prospect

Day 4 of Champix so far, don't feel any of the side effects, don't feel any walls being built against the nicotine, YET.
I'm sure the feelings will start once i've been on them a bit longer and doubling the dosage.
Have decided to bite the bullet on day 12 just as this coincides with the smoking cessation clinic that I have to attend.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
Day 14 on champix, day 6 not smoking.
I feel like a non smoker now, I am just not thinking about smoking. I am going to try and get hold of the Allen Carr book to try and change my mindset completely though because I am really worried about failing in the future. I've never stayed stopped before and want this to be the last time I have to give up.
Still suffering from terrible nausea on champix though, but I will ask I can maybe drop back to the 0.5mg tablets after the next week or so, I want to try and complete the 12 week course because I think that will help my chances of stopping forever.
I can't believe the silk quit meter says I would have smoked over 100 cigarettes in just this small amount of time, that seems so mad but I was on 20 a day so it's true.
I haven't had a cough yet but my sense of smell is gradually returning.
I would definately recommend Champix to anyone, even though I am having quite a hard time wih the sickness, the actual giving up has been child's play
Good Luck everyoneWell I can't stand by the side
And watch this life pass me by
Just want to be...Happy0 -
Hi
Yesterday I decided not to put a patch on (had one left). I did feel restless and ate a lot.
Oh was restless too (despite coming off the patches about 2 weeks ago) and after the children were in bed went to the shop to get some things we needed for dinner.
He said he'd bought fags and was going out in the garden for one or two. I said I thought it was a shame that he'd bought some but that it was up to him. He said he knew he shouldn't but that he wouldn't smoke the next day etc. I said fair enough but I wouldn't be joining him as I knew that I couldn't just have the one. He said "wow I'm impressed!".
Turned out that he hadn't bought any but had wanted to and was testing me to see if I would say "oh go on then" and then he would say "well actually I haven't bought any do you want me to" and for me to say "ooh we shouldn't but we won't smoke tommorrow, just get 10 we'll keep them for emergencies, we have had a really bad week ...".
Anyway, upshot is no fags were bought or smoked and I'm pleased this morning.
Still feel deprived though.0 -
I did too but it didnt' work long for me, same as Allen Carr so I guess things seeping into my subconscious just seep back out again just as quick.
To anyone thinking of doing the Allen Carr Clinic.. if you shop at Tesco you can use your vouchers to pay for it. I think £5 of voucher is worth £20 when traded in for a deal so well worth the money

I saw a short article in best magazine and if you quote them you get £50 off. I'm not sure if there is a time limit but my local therapist was quite happy to give me the discount - even though she wasnt' sure of the amount she took my word for it that it was £50. That made it £170 instead of £220.0 -

Also it didn't help with the withdrawal symptoms, it just strengthened my resolve initially.
It was the same with Alan Carr for me, it worked for a while and that was it. I think some of us are more susceptible to suggestion than others.
The book didn't work for me at all (well, 2 days) but the clinic has worked wonderfully so far. I guess we have to just find something that is right for us.
I gave up for 3 years way back in the early 90s and did that on willpower alone. More fool me that I had 'just the one' out of curiosity - it took more than a year for me to be back as a regular smoker but that one to try can be a very slippery slope.0 -
Hi folks, hope all is going well and whathavewedone I'm sure that was just a blip. Rant away!
Well I feel quite great really. The sore throat has gone, the cough went more chesty and loose over the weekend and it's been fine this morning. Rarely any thoughts of smoking over the weekend. I really am a non smoker. :T
I don't think I have eaten any more but I have definitely cut down on the alcohol. That's something I was starting to get worried about before stopping the smoking and it seems that all I had to do was ditch the fags and the drink would follow.0
