Fruit and veg prices soar - Some may disappear off the shelves

when buying veg from teh supermarket and having to pay by weight - what i do is take a knife or scissors with me and cut of the stalks, leaves anything I will ot eat and leave it on the shelf before taking it too the till to be weighted. You know, if she just cut the waste off her carrots she'd save 20% right there. Panic over folks.

This saves quite a lot of money in the long rn. For instance I cut off the stems from the broccoli and this where most of the weight is so that I only am charged for the florets. BIG MONEYSAVING!!0 -

Leeks, sprouts, lovely, grow your own and they taste even better. Try a flown in tomato next to a sprout you have grown yourself...... only one of them has any taste btw
Roasted parsnips with a bit of parmesan cheese on them (roasted with them, not at the end). Sounds awful, but is rather lovely.0 -
I am starting to wish I didn't live in a central London flat. Used to grow cracking root veg and tomatoes with my grandmother in the Pennines. Not so bad that I'll go on the waiting list for an allotment, though... my friends round the corner do share one between two couples.Hurrah, now I have more thankings than postings, cheers everyone!0

Not good. See pages nineteen and twenty, though I do accept that that was 2007. Can't see them having been removed, though.“I could see that, if not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled.” - P.G. Wodehouse0 -

Surely every MSEer really, really squashes down everything in the bowl from the pick'n'mix salad-bar then gaffa-tapes down the lid before going to the till?

Sorry but that can't be right.
I bet they could do you for vandalism or something daft like that, after all it isn't yours until you have paid for it.
Mind you, I don't even try grapes or anything like that before I buy them. Must be the way I was brought up, was always told you were in effect stealing them.
The most annoying thing is seeing people in the supermarket drinking from cans, bags of crisps etc and I suppose giving the assistant the wrapper to scan to pay for it.
IT ISN'T YOURS, you haven't paid for it yet!

I believe they can't touch you for consuming the goods on the premises (may be an urban myth). So quite possible that trimming the stalks is perfectly reasonable. If that is the case, then you could choose a quiet moment, trim up a load of veg for the evenings casserole, and save possibly 50% on waste.0
