Well haven't updated for a couple of days so here we go. Was really upset today as we got our credit card bill which is now up to 4300. We had to buy a new mattress which pushed it up. Am so sick of this card we never seem to make any headway with payments. We always seem to be bloody skint. I am in my overdraft and have an oil bill to pay which is £250 quid. I think I am going to have to dip into my savings to pay for this one. Anyway after a long discussion with a also as sick DH we cut the card up. Thats it no more card. If we can't afford it we don;t have it!! I am so determined to pay the thing off as it is stopping me from having and doing the things I want to do.We have decided to try and pay it off before July. So Dh going to do any overtime and I am going to try and focus on getting stuff on ebay. I sorted a load of baby stuff out today so hopefully will get me butt into gear and get them sold. We thought that if the credit card was paid off before the summer that would leave us a little over for a couple of weeks away in our caravan. We got this as our hols abroad are getting so expensive now their are 5 of us!! So am hoping that a few hols away in the caravan next couple of years should help get the finances back on track!!
Anyway got my tesco order delivered on friday it was handy but found that stuff wasn't the right size eg tinsy bananas! And I missed loads of things. I then had to go to asda to top everything up and nearly doubled my budget. Well won't be doing that again!!
Am aiming for a NS day today. Am having a restful one at home and to be honest after that credit card statement am feeling really depressed and fed up about the whole thing. At first I was really keen but found that has knocked me now!!
    Roll on tomorrow!

Well can sincerely say I had my proper lightbulb moment last night it had me in tears. We applied for extra borrowing on the mortgage to pay for a kitchen extension and wanted a fixed rate fee of £1000 on top of that I chased up some old loans for settlement figures and was so shocked to find we have only paid interest off and not actually any of the money we owed even though we have been paying over 2 years. Feel so stupid and like we have just thrown money away. Well that stops now. I am phoning mortgage company this morning to cancel the borrowing. I am going to try and over pay the n rock loan by at least minimum £100 per month. We are also trying to pay off our ever growing credit card! Once all these are paid we will start saving towards our extension rather than borrowing more. I know this will take loads longer but I have finally realised how much money we are just chucking away on credit!! Well def feeling a bit more positive today but def gonna be skint for a while although it will be worth it in the end!! :A:eek:

Also speaking of the important phonecalls. I called the mortgage company and told them we no longer wanted the borrowing to do the kitchen extension. This is prob the most mature thing I have ever done! I am gutted that I will have to wait for another year for my bigger kitchen. But hey ho once we are debt free it will be worth it!:j

Well didnt manage a NS day after all. I then checked our bank and found we are over £259 overdrawn this month. It doesn't matter what I do I can never seem to get the sums straight.
Should i use some of my saving to fill this gap or should I try and cut it this month? Any suggestions would be great? x

  • Just wanted to pop in and say hi - just to let you know someone is still reading. I'm afraid I can't offer much in the way of advice, as the minniepoos household is now starting to try to get itself out of the black hole it has landed itself in. So really, just letting you know I'm going through it with you.

Take it easy, and good luck.

Hi Minniepoos thanks for your kind words I find that just doing the diary keeps me motivated and reminds me of the target. I went into town today and spent about £25 on bits which wasn't too bad.
I am going to make a real effort in the next couple of weeks to try and get all the stuff I have sorted out on ebay. I am sure there is a few £ to be made. I also need to
    - sort out DD passport
    - organise travel insurance
    - post some letters.
I also have promised myself to try and have a whole house sort out. I feel really cramped at the mo and I am sure a good tidy out and clean lol would help. I know a tidy and organised house can do wonders for your mood!! Will update again soon! x

  • Hi Pinky! :D

Well done on your diary so far ~ it makes very upbeat, positive reading! I shall enjoy popping by to see what progress you have made. ;)

Have you posted your SOA yet? Cos there are some really amazing people who can take a look at it and advise you where you might be able to cut back/save money. You'll get a whole load of advice and support.

Also, as regards your nasty credit card, come on over and join us on the Payment a Day thread. You can just make a small payment towards it each day, and you'll be surprised the difference it makes! I've been doing it since November, just a little each day, and these payments total over £250 ~ money that would have just been "swallowed up" before, with nothing to show for it!

Good luck with your debt-free journey x
