    I'm ridiculously proud of myself!
Have just finished a super stretchy hat and a vent hat woo-hoo!:j

Just so you're all sure it's really me - another question I'm afraid.

I have some gorgeous Sirdar Snowflake DK baby wool in my stash (bought to make my babies something - they are now noisy boys aged 3 and 6 yrs and wouldn't look good in pale yellow. Is it OK to use this wool for the hats? It's lovely and soft but don't know if the texture would cause a problem for wee ones.

I think I can feel a hat obsession coming on....

Hi K2tog - I'm sure the wool will be fine, especially as it's baby wool. I shall update on this post to include your two hats, so well done on getting started!

My Mum phoned me this morning because she has just counted up the things she has made since the new year started and it's quite phenomenal. I have visions of her just knitting all day and all night, with barely a break for food. She really does get carried away!

For some reason, I can't copy and paste now. I'll write another post for the update!

That would really benefit me - my bottom would get smaller :rotfl:

Perhaps I should aim for greater output and less food breaks - there must be a workout video tie-in somewhere here!

I have got the needles and joined the OECS site to knit lap blankets for the elderly. I am trying to get the tension right for a 7" x 7" square. Not managing very well, have undone 5 squares now.

May have to revert to crochet afghan but fancied something different.

    Anyone got any ideas?

    H

Shezmit - yes, send your chicks and I'll try not to send them back boss-eyed! If you don't mind, I'd love the pattern for your Easter chicks!

Hermoine - you're more than welcome to join us!

If your tension is too tight, you'll need larger needles - try the next size up. If it's too loose, you'll need smaller needles - try the next size down. We all knit to our own individual tension; mine is on the tight side so I quite often use larger needles than stated in a pattern. If this doesn't help, try measuring what you have knitted and, if it's too small, add a few stitches, if it's too big, reduce the number of stitches. Hope this helps!

Incidentally, I have found that wooden or bamboo needles are much comfier - and quicker - to knit with. They are slightly dearer than the steel ones but I managed to find some in a charity shop for 25p a pair. If you are a 'tight' knitter, wooden needles will help a lot.

Good luck. OECS is a wonderful site, isn't it?
