Best Current Account?

There are none.does anyone know of any other current accounts that offer cashback on your spending?
Track down a cashback credit card, make all purchases on that and settle the bill in full each month.

Then use this to supplement the £60 a year Halifax will pay you if you keep your current account in credit and fund it with £1000 a month.0 -
Would have recommended First Direct once upon a time but am getting increasingly cheesed off. 24/7 human being contact is brilliant and a major selling point which is the reason I've stayed but
a)There's a fee of £10 if you pay less than £1500 in and have no products other than a bank account (I don't pay the fee)
b)The OD charges are belligerent -an automatic £25 for the smallest OD for the shortest time-there is a rationale for these charges but I find them convuluted-they are now called 'arrangement fees'. I've just been charged £25 for being OD by £22 for three hours. And they get very nasty if you query the charges-or maybe this was just me
c)There is no interest on the current account and the savings account rates are tiny
I'm probably not their dream customer ! I have accounts at A and L and Abbey too so I juggle the funds to get the best deals-maybe that's why I'm less than popular with First Direct !0 -
Eira I agree that the savings rates at First Direct are poor unless you have an offset mortgage. But the First Account (current account in FD speak) gives you an interest and charge-free overdraft of £250. That's a good deal in my opinion.0

I don't have that-have been a customer for nearly 20 years and did have a 'fee free' OD of £100. Went OD by about £10/£20 and £15 about three times assuming it was all within the 'interest/fee free' OD- but no-got charged £25 for two as it was more than once in the 6 month 'arrangement free' window. You are allowed (as far as I can gather) one 'OD' in the 6 month arrangement free window-never can understand whether this is for an OD of any kind or the full amount. In my case it's £25 for a £100 OD (won't allow me anymore) and it seems that if I go OD more than once I get an 'arrangement fee' slapped on. I have tried quoting the £250 fee free OD at them but it just isn't true for me I'm afraid0
