Best Current Account?

I have been with Alliance and Leicester for about 3 years now.....and fancy a change.....any recommendations for a new current account.

Pay in 1700 per month and have a 2400 overdraft.

  • Any reason for a change? A&L have had one of the best interest paying current accounts for a while now.

In my limited experience, supported by numerous other posts on these forums by others, Abbey are incapable of doing anything seamlessly.

They are one of a handful of companies who I wouldn't touch with a bargepole - even if they were a clear best buy.

First Direct have a high service standard (according to MrsOpinions4u and other posters on here).

Nationwide are mid-range on service with the advantage of charge free transactions overseas as a nice perk.

    Neither have particularly good rates.

Lloyds seem to be paying relatively high rates on current accounts - 3% up to £2,500 on Plus accounts, 5% on balances between £5,000 and £7,000 with Vantage. But how long these rates will last is uncertain. The Vantage rate hasn't changed since summer.
