or do you mean take more power (watts) - maybe it just needs more oomph to create its cyclone in the smaller models

nope I mean the 'suction power' they quote on the dyson web page in something called 'air watts'

    Compact models:
    DC32, DC19, DC23 all - 280 Air watts

    Upright models:
    DC25 - 220 Air watts
    DC27 - 255 Air Watts
    DC24 - 100 Air Watts
Anyone know what the dust capacity of the old DC10 was, looking to replace, but some of the dust holders look a lot smaller now ?

According to the google there never was a DC09 or DC10 due to issues with aircraft having the same name.... :lipsrseal

Um, Air Watts never heard of those before ? - but it seems Wiki has so we'll let that one go

I'm sure I'm dsylexisc, but it was never an 'option' all those years ago when I was at school

Of course I meant the DC01 ... ( dust holder capacity ? anyone)
  • :DDefinitely recomend a Bissell. I got an upright all singing all dancing in the co-op reduced from over £200 to £69 and it is far and away the best vacuum I've ever had.
It has a detachable part to make it easy to do the stairs, the suction is first class, it's bagless and I am so pleased I have just bought my father one too.
Might be worth a look for you. x:T

We bought an upright Sebo X4 Extra upright. It's the best vacuum I've used. It works very well on laminate floors unlike the last two uprights we had, it's fairly quiet and it's a fair bit lighter than the Miele upright which was the other one we considered.

We got it from Freenet Electricals for £215 which was by far the cheapest and it comes with a standard 5 year guarantee.

It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die

currently using Dyson DC07 but looking for alternatives.. DC 14??? Miele S7 above my budget max 150 quids for B new..

So Please can somebody recommend a new vacuum. We prefer an upright and have carpet upstairs and vinyl flooring downstairs. No pets.

    Thanks
  • - European air watts test standard No is IEC6031
    - I welcome it, at least its a number the general public can understand
    - at the end of the day more wattage = more power = more suction
    - so the bigger the motor the better, that is the reason Dyson were / are a success
    - its also the reason you can fry bacon on the Dyson motor when you have finished cleaning
    - cylinder cleaners need twice the motor of uprights for the same suck
    - so 200 air watts on an upright means you need 400 air watts on a cylinder for the same outcome

I just fixed my old Dyson DC07 Animal today, nothing major just a new brush. I have had it for 7 years and its brill. I also have a cylinder Dyson DC20 and it is no where near as good.
The Dc07's have air watts of 360, this is what matters.
If you can, stick with the DC07 :)
