Which reliability figure for uprights:
Sebo95%
Panasonic93%
Electrolux90%
Vax90%
Oreck83%
Dyson81%
Hoover75%
"54% of all upright vacuum cleaner survey responses came from owners of Dysons, but it scores a below-average 81% for reliability. However, Dyson offers a free five-year warranty, so we will continue to recommend Dysons that perform well in our tests."Charlie0 -
We have had two dysons in the past eight years and never had a problem with them.
When something needed replacing we just phoned dyson and got the parts sent out F.O.C
Both dysons have had trips down the stairs on their own Hence the phone call's.
We also have hovered up the dust from polyfiller, cement etc in large amounts with no problems and i have even used it in the garage but dont tell her or dyson that.
When it does start to lose it's suction all you do is wash the filter under cold water and let it dry and then the dyson is as good as new.
The one we have got at the moment is the all floors where you can turn the brush off so you can hover wooden floors etc.
We also have several pets.
Top machine and dyson C/S is very good + FREE 5 year warrenty;)Spending my time reading how to fix PC's,instead of looking at Facebook.0 -
Have a sebo which goes effortlessly from carpet to wooden floor. Bags (clones) quite reasonable from ebay. Quite heavy but my model had a really long flexible hose included which coped with the whole stairs and makes car cleaning much easier.0

Thanks for all your advice
We've bought a Dyson DC14 origin from John Lewis for £139
5 year guarantee plus as a John Lewis special, two further free attachments, so we picked the hard floor tool and soft brush.
certainly seems a good deal and JL are top notch as regards customer care etc.
None left in store in Newcastle and only 100 left at the local depot, which serves all the John lewis stores, so we were lucky0 -
We have an Oreck, very lightweight and great for hard or carpet floors. It has a bag but it fills from the top so never loses suction or gets clogged up. We have had it for about 9yrs & never have any problems.

Can I ask which model you have. I was thinking Dyson but they still get slaughtered on reviewcentre.com. Sebo have excellent reviews and I've only just realised they also do the 5 year parts and labour guarantee.

You could have a look at the new upright Meile.

My Cat and Dog Cylinder knocks spots of my old Dyson.
Thanks but at £30 more than the SEBO and only a 2 year guarantee, the SEBO is in the lead at the moment :T0 -
Just to add when we had the Dyson they didn't offer a 5 year guarantee. Having a five year guarantee does help. When we buy a new decent Vacuum I want a bagged one as I'm fed up with cleaning filters on bagless ones and getting dust everywhere when you empty them.
Personally I perfer cylinder vacs as well but my wife insists on having an upright event though they tend to be heavier. It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0 -
