dfs sofa, is salesman trying it on?

Hi all, i hope this is the right place to post this....

We are looking to buy a new corner sofa and are looking at two models at DFS, the salesman is heavily stressing that this one is better as the other one requires more "plumping" and so is harder work...so he wants us to get this one - http://www.dfs.co.uk/sofas/corner-gr...191/2791/0/all - which we like and it has a 10 year guarantee but we also like this one - http://www.dfs.co.uk/sofas/corner-gr...191/2689/0/all (this is the hard work one apparantly)

So, my theory is the first one has such a massive discount (!), salesman is desperatly trying to get us to buy it and not the other one - i think they are discontinuing it and thats why they are trying so hard....

Can i have opinions please? We think we prefer the second one but don't want to have one that needs plumping daily, but don't want to be duped by them either!!

Thanks all
Flipped x

I bought a leather sofa from DFS 2 years ago, and the leather is all "rubbing" off - I wondered where you saw the info that there was a 10 year guarantee?

Ive just noticed its the frame and springs that have the guarantee - not the covers

If their leather is anything to go by - I would never ever buy anything from them again, the workmanship is extrmely shody.

    Sorry

Aside from the 'fluffing up' if you look under the long part of it is there a foot it the middle? If not it will probably start sagging/bowing after a while.
Try and find one with decent feet under it?

We bought a sofa from dfs about 3 years ago and it has been fine. We had one of the more expensive ones and it is natural leather so the colour is natural too. Alot of the cheaper sofas at dfs are dyed leather so the colour does rub off after a while (I think you can use a leather dye on them though)so it might be wise to check this out.
Life may not be the party we hoped for, but while we're here we should dance....
  • Thanks for opinions! Hmm, i don't know where else to buy a sofa? I looked in Harveys but they looked terrible and i would never normally think of DFS but mother in law has one from there and she raves about it....

I think we will get one of these i just want to be sure am getting the right one and not being played by the salesman (am sure he is lovely and wouldn't dream of it.....;))

  • deanos - sofasofa is where we got our sofas that we have now, they haven't lasted that well tbh...although they were only £600 for two, they looked tired after a year - could well be us, we are a tiresome family....

ah right , not used them myself but others have said they are ok, this was leather ones mind
  • We had thought about a leather sofa but I'm not sure about them - I have visions of ths children sticking to them in the summer....I like some of the sofas in sofasofa but am a bit wary of buying without trying - we tried the one in dfs (the top one) and it was THE most comfortable sofa i have ever sat on..maybe they put extra padding in their showroom ones?!
  • I'm sure they expect you to plump everyday regardless. I'd be asking what the cushions are filled with because that makes more of a difference. I have a more expensive sofa bought from a local store which has cushions that flatten really quickly when you sit on them. As it's not in our family room it doesn't get used much so not a problem.

I've had my leather sofas from DFS for 18 months or so and they look great still. I paid £1,200 for a smallish 3 seater and 2 seater so they were fairly cheap. We bought them because with 2 small children and several dogs we wanted something pretty hardwearing but which we wouldn't worry too much if it got ruined.
