time to catch up on my TR I think.....Al sleeps on
Woke him up at about 6pm to get ready to go out for a bite to eat....decided to go to the buffet at NY NY as we were going to be there for the evening anyway.....it was nice but not as good as the Harrah's one I thought..wandered round the shops for a while then stopped in Nine Fine Irishmen for a pint and to watch the irish group......
then it was off to the theatre to see Zumanity.....
i didn't think NYNY had a buffet? did you mean somewhere else? :)

Anyway, starting to panic now as OH has started packing. Not going till Saturday. One suitcase full and I have not started on mine yet. She seems to have so many b******g shoes!! Typical woman eh?

As we have only been able to have 3 or 4 days away since 1995 I really cant decide how much to take.
REMEMBER! :) the less you take, the more you can bring back ;)

i managed to talk my missus into takin' less shoes, and in return i let her buy more packs of lucky charms :rotfl:

Not likely! I love that so many people have been visiting recently and posting TRs when they get back...I'll be sad when it goes back to normal and we don't have them very often.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Haha! That's a very good tactic. Normally, we put one of our medium cases inside a large case...so when we get there, we have a whole big case empty and waiting to be filled with various things including a large helping of beloved American foods.

Can't believe you're not packed yet. I booked my hol to Vegas back in January, bought the cases a week later and have been slowly packing ever since, and I'm not going for another 9weeks!!!! Mind you I haven't been on a proper holiday for nearly 20 years when I was just a kid so maybe I'm just a wee bit excited.:j
Hope you have a fab time.

We always pack a large holdall to take back the dirty laundry, but it didn't have wheels so we bought a wheeled one there this time and I can manage that while hubby takes the cases.

He is an expert packer and always manages to get the weight of the 2 cases roughly the same. However he excelled himself packing to come home this time. We discovered the needle of the luggage scales had broken so it was down to guesswork. He managed to get 49lbs in one cases and 46lbs in the other, just under the max 50lbs allowance.

Well we worked out perfectly coming home, Claire did it very well, blindly packed both cases, and got it EXACTLY on 50lbs!!! Perfect, no over charge :D

2 out of our 3 cases were over the limit on the way back, however they were only slightly over so she let us do a bit of manoevring whilst she waited (ie. she didn't send us to the back of the queue) --- this was at the US Airways check-on at Vegas

doing this, we managed to get the two large cases bang on 50lbs :D just had to move a few pairs of jeans around and such-like

(well, we had 4 cases technically as we had a small inside a large that we didn't use (bit like ferf said :D ) - so if push came to shove we could have completely re-arranged things)

Wow, really holding up the US perception of the UK folks being mean tippers!

I know this is a money saving forum, but tipping anyone apart from a bar tender less than $5 is pretty much an insult.

I usually tip bell boys $10 for bringing bags to my room, $5 for pretty much anything else (apart from food - 15% minimum, and bar tenders, $1-2 per drink)
So who apart from a bartender, valet and bellhops who is there then. Do you tip the check in clerk? The buffet servers $5? Do you tip the chambermaid $5 per day?? ( I don't tip them at all, they make $15 per hour at MGM properties) Food is a given that you tip between 18-20% (don't agree with it but there you go) I am American to and I only tip valets $2, even $1 if they take a long time with the car. It's tosh that the Americans think we are bad tippers, well, not as bad as the French, German , Mexicans, Japanese, and just about any other nationality apart from the Canadians
I had a situation last trip when having our bags collected to be taken down to the valet at Paris. Guy comes to the room takes 4 bags and makes a point of telling me that I won't see him again, hint, hint. So I give him $15 Get to the valet and another girl arrives with my bags and hangs around after they go into the car. I told her that I had already tipped the other guy and she says "well we don't pool tips" so I told her that they had better get half of the money off of the other bell hop then.
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
