Get to check in as early as you can (twilight check in at Gatwick if you can) and pay for the exit row seats or the extra legroom seats...far less expensive and plenty of leg room. We've flown PE and it's not worth £650 each especially on the Vegas route.

Thanks to this forum and the advice I got, I have now booked our flights to Vegas! So our first trip there will be at the end of August! :T
I booked through Opodo in the end as they were cheaper but I didn't get any choice over seats? Do I just do this when I check in? With twilight check in does that mean we can check in 24 hrs beforehand at the airport, so if our flight is at 10.10am on Tuesday we can check in at 10.10am on the Monday? And then pay the extra for more legroom?
Sorry if this is a stupid question, just want to do everything right as its our honeymoon!

Are you flying with Virgin? 10.10 doesn't seem like a Virgin departure time.

Regardless, you should have a confirmation number for the airline you are flying with - in all cases I know of you can go to the airline's website with that number and select your seats. Best to do it ASAP to ensure you have the best chance of getting seats you want - I wouldn't wait until check-in. Check www.seatguru.com for seating on particular planes. The other option is to call the airline to request seats. But remember, doing it online or on the phone doesn't guarantee your seats, but it's the best chance to ensure you get what you want.

Most airlines have online check-in open 24 hours before the flight - we always use this option.

As far as I know, only Virgin offer twilight check-in and then only from Gatwick...it's not 24-hours before - it's from noon to 9pm the night before...reports are that you can buy the extra legroom seats or exit rows at twilight check-in, though it seems sometimes you can only do that the day of the flight.

Sorry, I have totally confused everything it seems! Our flights are with US Aiways. On their site it seems to say that you can check in online or at the airport up to 24 hrs before flight? I'm trying to work out if we need to book a hotel near the airport so that we can check in the day before?

I wasn't aware that US Air offered airport check-in 24 hours before...perhaps they do if that's what you're seeing though I couldn't find it (could only find that you could check in at an airport kiosk up to 8 hours before departure).

I'm not sure how far you are from your departure airport, but we've been staying at airport hotels the night before our flights (with or without twilight check-in on Virgin) for years now...it saves me so much stress the morning of the flight it's worth it to us, and sometimes you can find really good hotel + parking options...but I'm sure others would prefer to sleep in their own bed the night before the flight.

Thank you so much for telling me to pick my seats now! I've just booked our seats so at least I know we are sitting together! I think we will check in online 24 hrs beforehand to try and get the extra legroom seats and then go to a hotel nearer the airport for the night.
Just got to decide on our hotels now from all the reviews on here and the offers available!

I don't know if you can get extra legroom seats using online check-in - I know you can't with Virgin. May be that you check in 24-hours before online, then when you go to drop your bags you can enquire about exit row seats or any other extra-legroom options they have. I think you have to be present to get exit row seats - they have to see you to assess whether you're physically able to do the job if needed.

Have fun on the hotel options! I think that's my favorite part (even if we always end up staying at the same place).

I know with AA and NWA you can bag extra legroom while checking in online. 24 hours before departure when you go to check in online, there are prices over the available seats, you just click on them and they charge your CC. VS don't let you do it because they have to see you in person to make sure you are fit and able. I personally like the way U.S. carriers treat us like adults, not making us buckle up and turning of the IFE 40 minutes from landing, and leaving the Videos on till you land. Hey, and who ever takes note of the fasten seatbelts sign on an American carrier:rotfl:
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.
